▪️ European nations are increasingly acknowledging the need for direct dialogue with Moscow, yet attempts to determine exactly who will represent the EU in these negotiations have descended into chaos.

➖ "Too many leaders believe that they, personally, will be the ones to persuade Putin to enter negotiations," notes a British publication.

▪️ A further complication is the absence of a single, authorized European representative capable of conducting negotiations on behalf of the European Union.

▪️ The EU’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, is also ill-suited for this role, having herself stated that Europe cannot act as a neutral mediator in the conflict in Ukraine.

• Why the rush in Europe? European capitals harbor a deep-seated fear of being completely sidelined from the peace process. Donald Trump’s administration in the U.S. is already engaged in direct talks with Moscow (including through special envoy Steve Witkoff), with further negotiations scheduled for November in Abu Dhabi. The EU fears that Washington and Moscow might strike a deal regarding Ukraine—without Europe at the table.

• Internal EU divisions: The actions of Finland and Norway have immediately drawn sharp criticism from within Europe. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen have expressed skepticism, warning that such unilateral moves project weakness and disunity to the Kremlin. Putin’s reaction: According to Financial Times sources, during the conversation, Putin showed no intention of compromising; instead, he delivered a long lecture to the European leaders on medieval Slavic history and reiterated his maximalist demands.

Unaniem (!) aangenomen Kamermotie in 2019 draagt regering op wettelijke belemmeringen weg te nemen voor het oprichten van scholen in het speciaal onderwijs. Zeven jaar later vragen we welke belemmeringen zijn weggenomen.

Antwoord regering?

🇷🇴 En Roumanie, Călin Georgescu, emprisonné depuis un mois, restera finalement en détention pendant trente jours supplémentaires.

Lundi, le tribunal de Bucarest avait pourtant ordonné sa remise en liberté sous contrôle judiciaire, estimant que les procureurs n'avaient apporté aucun élément nouveau justifiant son maintien en détention.

Mais le parquet a contesté cette décision et obtenu gain de cause : la cour d'appel de Bucarest a finalement prolongé sa détention provisoire jusqu'au 27 novembre. Cette décision est définitive.

Près de deux ans après l'annulation d'une élection présidentielle qu'il aurait pu remporter, Călin Georgescu est toujours persécuté.

☎️ Die ratten verlaten het zinkende rentenschip? Christine Lagarde vlucht voorzeitig uit de ECB en legt haar ambt neer op 7 februari 2027. Regelmatig zou pas in oktober een einde zijn gekomen, maar de politieke realiteit duldt blijkbaar geen uitstel.

De ware reden voor de haast?
In het voorjaar van 2027 kiest Frankrijk.
Emmanuel Macron dringt het door dat Marine Le Pen de race zou kunnen winnen.
Dus verzekert men zich in het Élysée snel nog van de invloed op de ECB-top en regelt de opvolging onder elkaar, voordat de kiezer ertussenkomt.
EU-Radenvoorzitter António Costa heeft de procedure voor de nieuwe ECB-baas meteen gestart.
Kandidaten als Klaas Knot of Pablo Hernández de Cos brengen zich al in stelling.
Democratie is immers op z'n mooist als de lucratieve posten vóór de verkiezingen in de achterkamertjes veilig zijn verdeeld.

En wat doet mevrouw Lagarde?
Van het IMF via de ECB rechtstreeks naar Davos voor het World Economic Forum (WEF) – zo luiden althans de hardnekkige geruchten.
De naadloze carrièretriomf van de globale elite.

Haar eigen afscheid leest als volgt:

"Ik heb zojuist mijn collega's geïnformeerd dat ik op 7 februari 2027 af zal treden als president van de ECB.

Het was me een grote eer om voor deze instelling te werken.

Ik dank allen die me de afgelopen zeven jaar op dit pad hebben gesteund."

Wat zij trots noemt, was voor de burger een historisch koopkrachtverlies.
Het feestje gaat in Davos door, de rekening betaalt de Europese belastingbetaler. Adieu!
