The engine house, featuring elaborate timber trusses designed for Dundee's first Corliss engine, was later extended at the front when it was reequipped.
Manhattan Works was a bustling centre of industry, powering the local economy and contributing to Dundee’s reputation as Jutetopolis. Constructed in 1873-1874 by Thomson Bros for Colonel Frank Sandeman, who was also associated with Stanley Cotton Mills.
