The Minister attended the Pacific Islands Forum Dialogue with Forum Dialogue Partners.

He spoke about the critical role Dialogue Partners play in the functioning of the Forum: “New Zealand welcomes the significant support to our region from our Dialogue Partners. We want to continue working closely with you through a partnership mechanism that delivers benefits to both Forum Members and our Partners. We also remind our Partners that we have declared our region an Ocean of Peace.”

Why wouldn’t you give @nzfirst two ticks?

A quick snapshot of some NZ First 2026 policies:

• Oppose the India FTA – says the current deal gives too much away on immigration and doesn't deliver enough for NZ, particularly dairy.
• Pull NZ out of the Paris Climate Agreement.
• Break up the supermarket duopoly to increase competition and bring grocery prices down.
• Break up the electricity gentailers – separate electricity generation from retail to tackle power prices.
• Only NZ citizens to have voting rights – rather than permanent residents.
• Hold a binding referendum on the Māori seats.
• Kiwi Kids Grant – $5,000 tax-free per child, per year, for the first three years for each of the first three children, where at least one parent is an NZ citizen.
• Compulsory KiwiSaver, including automatic enrolment at birth and a $1,000 Government kick-start for NZ citizen babies.
• Develop NZ's own oil, gas, geothermal and mineral resources and strengthen our energy and fuel independence.
• Return 50% of mining royalties to the regions where those resources are produced.
• Create a $100 billion NZ Future Fund to finance a long-term, 30-year infrastructure programme.
• Establish a competitive state-owned bank to increase competition in banking.

In short: NZ resources, NZ infrastructure, NZ families, NZ sovereignty and greater competition in the industries hitting Kiwis in the pocket.

- the bilateral relationship, including access to the Manaaki Scholarship Programme;
- ⁠cooperation in the Pacific Islands Forum;
- ⁠attracting investment in the Pacific Resilience Facility.

The Minister was honoured to jointly announce with Cook Islands Prime Minister Mark Brown and US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau a major port development in Penrhyn Island in the Cook Islands.

The US and New Zealand will co-fund the project. The US will contribute US$50 million (approximately $NZ84 million) and New Zealand will contribute $NZ17.5 million (approximately US$10 million). New Zealand will implement the project in close coordination with the Cook Islands and the US.

Mr Peters said during the announcement, “this is a positive and hugely significant initiative that demonstrates the strength of New Zealand’s partnerships with both the Cook Islands and the United States.

“We are very pleased to be able to partner with the United States and the Cook Islands Governments to deliver this development priority for the Cook Islands, drawing on New Zealand’s experience in infrastructure delivery across the Pacific.”

The Minister met the Norwegian Foreign Minister’s Special Envoy Milla Ødegaard and Denmark’s Special Envoy for the Indo-Pacific Marcus Mathiasen. They discussed:

- the positive role that Nordic countries are playing in the Pacific;
- how Nordic innovation can improve Pacific livelihoods, especially in sectors such as fisheries;
- ⁠the Pacific Resilience Facility.
