This scene is a masterpiece, it’s basically a textbook depiction of ego death. The shattering of a grand illusion, that desperate final attempt to prove the lie right and then the total psychological collapse. Essential viewing.
The ending of Shrek 2 (2004) is pure payoff, “Livin’ La Vida Loca” blasting, the fairy tale world going full chaos, and Shrek and Fiona choosing each other exactly as they are.
The ending of Lilo & Stitch (2002) lands so perfectly, this broken little group of people and aliens slowly becoming a real family. “ʻOhana means family” could’ve felt cheesy, but the film completely earns it.
