Today marks fifteen years since Very Own Studio came to life. It’s been a journey! But I’m proud to have dedicated this time to building a practice that reflects my values and love of design.
Here’s to the future.

The Qatar World Cup logo always reminded me of an ouroboros (the symbol of a snake eating its own tail) rather than the woolen shawl traditional the region that it is based on.
But perhaps that perception was coloured by the conversation around the treatment of migrant workers.
Focusing on the year rather than the identity of a country is obviously the way around this being a multi host tournament, played in Canada, Mexico, and the US.
Imagine a logo that tried to communicate the culture of three distinct places. It could easily get messy/political.
@briancollins1 Simplicity and simplistic are close bed-fellows. For example, ‘Make America Great Again’ is a simple slogan. But it deliberately means different things to different people and ultimately lacks substance.
I prefer to use ‘clarity’, because simple or complex, we should be clear!
FUN FACT.
The small round off-cut pieces of paper created when using a hole-punch are called ‘chad’.
The derivation of the word is unknown, it was first recorded in the 1930s. One cheeky suggestion is that ‘chad’ could be an acronym for Card Hole Aggregate Debris.
Tall order?
We’re looking for a really good freelance designer, with solid experience in concepts, visual identity and website design for a booking up to Christmas (potentially Jan and Feb too). Remote work is fine.

Has @twitter changed the way it handles videos? Recently, every single one is buffering, both on desktop and mobile - with sufficient download speeds.
Suspiciously, a two minute clip buffers at exactly 0:30, 1:00 and 1:30 - so could be some sort of pre-load issue, maybe?
