Trooper Bradley Ritger was 29. The last thing he did on the job was throw spike strips across I-94 to stop a fleeing driver.

On Sept. 21, near Elk Mound, the Wisconsin State Patrol trooper put the strips down during a pursuit. Moving to cover, he fell from the I-94 bridge. Eleven days later, on Oct. 2, he died.

The driver they were chasing, Martell Nicole Tolbert Mitchell, 47, of Minneapolis, is charged with attempting to flee or elude an officer, second degree recklessly endangering safety, possession of cocaine and THC with intent to deliver, and felony bail jumping. Cash bond was set at $70,000.

Investigators say it is still unclear whether her vehicle struck him.

Somebody ran. A young trooper chose to stop it. He is not coming home.

We will remember his name. Trooper Bradley Ritger, end of watch.

Champ and Cocoa made it out of the fire. Now these two senior dogs need someone to take them home.

They were rescued from a deadly rowhome fire on Fleming Street in Philadelphia's Manayunk neighborhood. Their owner, Janice Flemming, 62, died in that fire, and neighbors told NBC10 she had gone back in for her dogs.

Now they are at ACCT Philly with medical concerns from smoke inhalation, and the shelter says they urgently need placement.

ACCT Philly says both are "incredibly sweet."

"We are looking for an adopter or rescue able to manage their medical needs while they recover."

Champ and Cocoa are available at ACCT Philly.

The fire took their home. It does not get to take their second chance.
