#OnThisDay 1943 @RoyalCanNavy corvette HMCS Weyburn struck a mine off Cape Spartel, near Tangier and the Strait of Gibraltar.

The mine had been laid three weeks earlier by U-118. Its explosion and subsequent explosions of the corvette's depth charges cost the lives of 8 sailors.
