A big thank you to #MikeLamb for this great story on our Veterans Community Pantry! Unfortunately, food insecurity has become prevalent across the Country over the past few years. In Nova Scotia, 1 in 4 people are food insecure and utilizing food banks. We are just doing our part to help CAF and RCMP Veterans and serving members who are also struggling with high cost of food. If you are a Veteran, or you know of a Veteran, who is struggling, please reach out. It would be our honour to help you! https://t.co/6YxTW0XJSW
Today, we celebrate the country we are proud to call home. 🇨🇦
Canada Day 🇨🇦 is a time to reflect on the values that unite us—compassion, resilience, service, and community. It is also an opportunity to recognize those who have served and continue to serve in the Canadian Armed Forces and the RCMP whose dedication and sacrifice have helped protect these values, both at home and abroad.
At VETS Canada, we are reminded every day that our Veterans' service does not end when they take off the uniform. They deserve our gratitude, our respect, and our commitment to ensuring they have the support they need when facing difficult times.
As Canadians gather with family and friends to celebrate our nation's birthday, we encourage everyone to take a moment to remember those who have served and those who continue to serve our country with honour.
From all of us at VETS Canada, we wish you a safe, happy, and meaningful Canada Day.
Happy Canada Day! 🇨🇦

Hello Veterans in the Halifax area! We have some exciting news! Dr. Heather MacKinnon, who many of you may know, is now working out of our location in Dartmouth one day a week. Dr. MacKinnon is able to assist with assessments and reassessments for VAC claims and appeals. She can also help with medical and Quality of Life questionnaires. Please note that you must bring your medical documents with you and you must have the claim documents printed out. For further information or to book an appointment please email us at [email protected]
It’s amazing to see how much impact @vetscanada has made in our community and across the country. Jim and Deb Lowther have saved lives and made others more livable. Supporting our Veterans who need a hand up. And with great volunteers like Ken, Judie and Jim and others. #Thanks
Today, we were honored to celebrate U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant (Ret.) Eddie Wright as he moves into his mortgage-free, specially adapted smart home built by the Gary Sinise Foundation.
Inspired by the service of his father and grandfather, Eddie followed in their footsteps and joined the Marine Corps, later earning a place in the elite 1st Reconnaissance Battalion. He deployed to Fallujah in 2004, one of the most dangerous combat zones of the war.
On April 7, 2004, while riding in the lead vehicle of his convoy, Eddie and his unit were ambushed. During the firefight, a rocket-propelled grenade struck his rifle and exploded, severing both of his arms and shattering his femur. Despite his devastating injuries, Eddie remained alert, directing fellow Marines to safety as they rushed to save his life.
After receiving more than 40 units of blood during his evacuation and enduring a long road of recovery, Eddie became known for his resilience and unwavering positivity. Reflecting on his service, he shared that he would do it all again without hesitation.
"I didn’t realize how much a house can make you feel free. The convenience and access to everything that I need for everyday life brings a lot of breath into my spirit," Eddie shared.
This home will provide Eddie with the independence, stability, and peace he deserves as he continues building his life forward.
Welcome home, Eddie, and thank you for your extraordinary courage and sacrifice. 💙

Today we recognize and celebrate International Women’s Day — a day to honour the strength, resilience, and leadership of women everywhere. 💜
Across our communities, women continue to lead, serve, support, and inspire. From those serving in uniform, to Veterans who have paved the way, to the dedicated women working behind the scenes in organizations and communities — your impact is profound and lasting.
At VETS Canada, we are proud to work alongside remarkable women: Veterans, volunteers, staff, partners, and supporters who show every day what compassion, courage, and service truly look like. Their commitment helps ensure that Veterans across Canada receive the support, dignity, and care they deserve.
Today we celebrate the achievements of women, recognize the barriers many still face, and reaffirm our commitment to building a future where every woman is valued, supported, and empowered.
To the women who serve, who have served, and who continue to lift others up — thank you.
