The article can basically be summed up by this sentence: "We hear repeatedly that he is a charismatic leader good at everything he puts his mind to — athletics, music, organizing — and his only character flaw is that he is so talented and charismatic that he incurs other people’s jealousy." It's an attack on Chris Smalls for being too visible and too impactful because he's actually willing to put himself at risk for the causes that he advocates for, which basically proves the point about him incurring the jealously of others.
As someone who works with younger people, I say this out of love. A lot of older artists, across mediums, cant connect with younger people due to lack of literacy, comprehension, critical thinking, and even imagination.
Newer ppl in town are overwhelmed by the amount of options available in NYC and really have no clue where to go and be so they go where the lines are. Also despite all the connectivity of social media ppl these days feel isolated and are yearning for shared experiences
