Lucius Malfoy is an interesting character for me in this Malfoid story. Because he has a lot of potential and different ways to take him.
I always like to stick closer to canon with him, as while some people speculate or say it's implied he's abusive, we really just see him be a strict father.
And I think with Malfoid it's much of the same. He's a strict parent, but he does love his family. And that's fun. Cause it's very easy to write "Evil Man does all things Evil", when it's an interesting thought that, Yes Lucius is a Pure Blood Supremicist who is a Death Eater, but he can still love his family.
All this to say, I love seeing the funny stories or comics where Lucius finds Malfoid and Harry together and is like "Ah fuck, I gotta rebel against the Dark Lord now".
Which is funny yes, but does raise an interesting character facet of Lucius. When he was a Death Eater during Voldemorts first reign, he was either married or soon to be married in some form or fashion. But he didn't have a daughter yet.
So when Voldemort returns, Lucius isn't like "Fuck yeah, let's start hexing the Muggleborns!". He's got things to consider. It's a struggle. He wasn't exactly vying for Voldemorts return in canon, but he does serve.
The idea that having this daughter changes Lucius to really have to consider what to do to keep her safe is fascinating to me.
I've had a scene in my head since the Yule Ball. Malfoid returns at the end of Hogwarts with a spring in her step and some glee. She and Harry have either admitted feelings or gotten closer. And then she comes to her fathers study. He's haggard. A drink on the table.
Lucius doesn't usually drink or at least have as much as he's having, so Malfoid is thrown off. He informs her he's her that he's heard she and Potter have grown closer.
Malfoid bumbles a bit, but Lucius cuts to the chase. She cannot pursue a romantic relationship with Potter. Malfoid protests. Hard. But then Lucius looks at her and it silences her.
It's not anger. It's not the sterness or disapproval she's used to. It's fear. The Dark Lord has returned, he tells her. If he finds out you have a connection to Potter... It's left unsaid.
Lucius wants her safe. He doesn't want her in the Dark Lords crosshairs. If that means he has to break his daughters heart, he will do it. Even if it pains him so.

@Ashley__0237 Agreed! Great way of putting it. It's one of those ideas that's fun, but when you think on it, it might be taking too much from Harry and making him too centered around Malfoid.
Harry's Stag Patronus and is very important to him and works in the story, as he at first believes his Dad saved him before he realized he saved himself. It's a great Patronus.
I'm curious. With the new Malfoid plot, do you think Harry's Patronus changes? Like with Malfoid joining the Death Eaters, Dumbledores Death, her and Harry being at odds, does that grief change his Patronus into something that's a reflection of his love for Malfoid?
I think it still starts off as a Stag, it could change later.
I'm back and fourth on the idea. Might be too much, but it's an interesting thought experiment to think of what animal it would become to reflect Harry and Malfoids romance.
@flip_eternal Yeah 100%. One of those "Is this an idea? Eh" moments. Fun speculation, but I probably wouldn't implement it, unless I was changing the story a lot more than it is.
Yeah, but we're kinda putting a lot on bullying when if you look at everything else surrounding Snape, he was going to end up a Death Eater anyways. All his friends were Pure Blood Supremacists, he was delving into the dark arts, he was in Slytherin where they practically manufacture Death Eaters, he had a fucked up childhood before Hogwarts that left him bitter. Like we have a laundry list of shit that are reasons why Snape became a Death Eater. James being a bully didn't help, but we can't sit here and act like James turned Snape into a Death Eater.
Until the Very End. A short snippet in the Malfoid series of Harry's final moments before going off to die for the people he loves. And he can't help, but think of Malfoid in his final quiet minutes before

Lily’s smile was widest of all. She pushed her long hair back as she drew close to him, and her green eyes, so like his, searched his face hungrily, as though she would never be able to look at him enough.
“You’ve been so brave.”
He could not speak. His eyes feasted on her, and he thought that he would like to stand and look at her forever, and that would be enough.
“You are nearly there,” said James. “Very close. We are . . . so
proud of you.”
“Does it hurt?”
The childish question had fallen from Harry’s lips before he
could stop it.
“Dying? Not at all,” said Sirius. “Quicker and easier than falling asleep.”
“And he will want it to be quick. He wants it over,” said Lupin.
The weight that would have been lightened by those words only fell heavier, as a blonde and green eyed girl flashed before his eyes.
Dracina, Harry smiled sadly to himself. She was going to be cross with him. Going off to his death without even a goodbye? He would be making it up to her for the rest of his life.
“She’s lovely,” Lily placed a ghostly hand on his shoulder, making Harry jump.
“Who?” Harry asked.
“Dracina,” Lily smiled. “I’m so happy you found her.”
Harry felt the lump in his throat. “I’m leaving her.”
“It won’t be forever,” James stepped forward. “You love her, right?”
“I do,” the words fell out of Harry’s mouth automatically. “I should have said it more. She’s going to be furious with me for dying.”
Sirius let out a soft bark of laughter. “Not even married and already in the dog house. You really are James’ son.”
Harry smiled despite himself. Even though he was marching off to his death, he wished Dracina was with him. At least until it was over.
“If you love her, then she’ll always be with you,” James smiled. “Until the very end.”
Harry nodded, closing his eyes briefly. His hand gripped Dracina’s wand in his hand a bit tighter. He imagined it as her hand. He’d held it so many times before in what felt like a life time ago.
He finally let out a breath, opening his eyes to look at his loved ones.
“Stay close to me,” he said quietly.
And Harry Potter began his walk to what would be his end.
The Inquisitorial Squad in Book 5 is ripe for Malfoid possibilities. In fact it might be the best least angsty part of there relationship before it all goes downhill for a bit.
Regardless I think you always have Malfoid join them. This depends on your story. She's either in a relationship with Harry, a secret one, and joins to keep them from finding out about Harry's Club. Or they aren't and she's using it to be able to constantly keep tabs and pop up around Harry. I mean she's an Inquisitor. It's not weird she's stopped Harry 15 times that morning. Nor that she's following him around. He's a prime suspect.
No matter what Malfoid is making herself the one in charge of keeping tabs on Potter. Umbridge is delighted by this. She's heard rumor of the conflict between the two and who better to keep an eye on Harry than his "mortal enemy".
If they're in a relationship, she's constantly pulling him to the side, so they can... chat. The type of chat is up to writer discretion.
If they aren't in a relationship, at this point the Yule Ball has happened and FEELINGS ARE THERE. In abundance. So she's constantly stopping Harry, when he's with his friends and without.
They snipe at one another, but it doesn't have the same venom as their first and second year. This is... different. Ron and Hermione are in horror, as they realize this back and fourth has tension. Imagine that. Trapped, having to watch Harry and Malfoid hate flirt at one another and your not allowed to leave.
After it's done Hermione is aghast that he was flirting with Malfoid of all people. Ron laments it was like watching Percy write love notes to his girlfriend. Harry is embarrassed and angry. He wasn't flirting! That was banter. She annoys him!
Ron shakes his head. Oh his sweet idiotic best friend. That was so obvious, the paintings we're already talking about when they were going to get together.
Regardless of in the relationship or not, Malfoid develops a loathing of Marietta Edgecombe or Cho, depending on who you have tattle to Umbridge about the D.A.
In a relationship, she's infuriated that this snitch just ratted on Harry. If not in a relationship, she's infuriated because the game is over now. Potter is caught. And she had him right where she wanted him!
You can play this part of the year seriously or comedically, but I think it's a part of the Malfoid Harry relationship that I haven't seen a lot on, when it is probably the one where they could have the most fun as a couple before all the bad shit happens.
#Malfoid
@thelameduck1483 Yeah. Cause to them, she was actually very polite and accommodating. She was making sure Harry wouldn't hang out with the wrong sort. And he spit on that.
Now he's on their shit list lol.
I see your "Harry having skill with woman" and raise you "he can only flirt with Malfoid". Every other girl it's a bit awkward and it's clear he's a product of his childhood.
Malfoid? Bro shows why he's the son of James "The Chad" Potter and godson of Sirius Black. It's not conscious, but it comes out around Malfoid lol
@Kieran10x If Harry is a Horcrux, how come he doesn't affect people like every other Horcrux does? Maybe this was explained and I'm dumb. I can't remember XD
@NicholasJS29 Nice drama angle. I like it. Really plays into the idea that they're young and dumb and can be prone to jealousy like this. Also especially fun for those who are writing Yandere Malfoid
I mean if we ignore every other compounding factor that would lead him to becoming a death eater, regardless if he and Lily were friends, yeah this is a reason lol.
However if Snape ever explained why he became a Death Eater, I don't think "My crush fell for someone else" is going to be a good enough reason as to why he joined the death cult. "Damn you James Potter! You took the love of my life! For that I will go help exterminate the muggle borns, of which the girl I love is one and I still hold feelings for her"
Oh yeah that definitely matters. I always like the ending for Malfoid where Lucius is a doting grandfather or sacrificed himself to save Malfoid and Harry. So that's usually where my heads at.
But through the actual story I've always enjoyed that the Malfoy family canonically does love each other and care about one another more than anything. So I think I lean towards Lucius and them sharing Voldemorts world view, but when he turns on them and their safety is compromised, they will switch sides so fast your head will spin.
If I'm recalling correctly, a LOT of column A and a little of column B. Snape was naturally drawn to the Dark Arts and had a passion for it. He was in Slytherin, which acquainted him with pure-blood supremacist's. And you are shaped by your environment, so naturally he was pointed in that direction. He was also shaped by his childhood, with his abusive muggle father, which left him bitter and would lead to his cruel behavior later.
So a bunch of these factors led into Snape being a Death Eater. Now, the bullying did not exactly help this. It did encourage more research into the dark arts so he can take revenge. But no, I would not conclude the bullying made him become a Death Eater. Without the bullying, Snape was still well on his way to becoming a Death Eater.
