T20 World Cup roundup:

Afghanistan 🇦🇫 reach the T20 World Cup Semi Finals for the first time in their history, after beating Bangladesh 🇧🇩 by 8 runs.

This was all to play for in a must win game for both countries in order to reach the Semi Finals. Bangladesh’s task was to be more difficult as they needed to overcome a signicant Net Run Rate deficit to ensure they qualify. With Australia lurking in the shadows, hoping for a small Bangladesh win to send Australia through instead. With all the permutations it set out to a grand finale to the Super 8s.

And the game did not disappoint…
Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat first. Gurbaz and Zadran got Afghanistan off to a good conservative start putting on 59 for the first wicket before Zadran fell for 18(29) in the 11th over.
From this point on the innings did not seem to take off with Afghanistan losing regular wickets, as they stuttered to 115/5.

Gurbaz being pick of batsmen with a mature 43(55).
Pick of the bowlers being Taskin Ahmed with figures of 4-1-12-1 on a low scoring innings.

Bangladesh in response needed to chase down 115 in 12.1 overs in order to qualify for the Semi Finals.

Liton Das got Bangladesh off to the start they wanted in the first over with a 4 and a 6, taking 13 from the first over off Naveen-ul-Haq. However, this start was short lived as Farooqi removed Hasan for 0. In the 3rd over chaos ensued as Naveen struck twice in 2 balls, first removing Shanto then the Stalwart Shakib Al Hasan caught and bowled for a golden duck. Meaning that Bangladesh were in deep trouble at 23/3.

This turned out to be story and momentum of the innings with regular wickets falling, Liton Das was running out of partners at the other end as 8 of the 11 players reaching double scores. This ultimately left Bangladesh in deep trouble as they could not find a partner to stay with Liton Das. Bangladesh stumbled to 105 all out in the end, with 1 over left needing 8 to win, leaving Liton Das stranded on 54 not out.

A famous win and the biggest win in history for Afghanistan.

Croatia 🇭🇷 1 - 1 Italy 🇮🇹
Albania 🇦🇱 0 - 1 Spain 🇪🇸

Zaccogni scoring his first goal for Italy in a dramatic finish as Italy finish 2nd and qualify, whilst inflicting heartbreak for Croatia in the process.

Croatia were awarded a Penalty in the 54', which saw Modric step up and see his effort brilliantly saved by Donnarumma. However, it only took a minute before Modric had another chance, slotting in a rebound from another great save from Donnarumma.

Croatia looked like they had seen the game out with the final minute of added time remaining... Italy had other plans. A 98th minute stunning goal for Zaccagni, who's shot went curling into the far top right corner. Complete pandemonium and elation for Italy in contrast to heartbreak and deflation for Croatia.

Croatia now hope that they can achieve a best 3rd place spot in order to qualify. All Croatian eyes will be on the England vs Slovenia game hoping that England can beat Slovenia by 3 goals, giving them a slimmer of hope for qualification.

Albania 🇦🇱 0 - 1 Spain 🇪🇸
A Ferran Torres goal in the 13' was enough to defeat Albania as they go crashing out the tournament, finishing bottom of Group B. Spain keep their 100% winning record, going through without conceding a single goal in the group stages.
Albania can hold their heads high with the football they have played in the group of death.

India have inflicted back-to-back defeats to Australia, as India march into the Semi Finals with a 24 run victory.

Rohit Sharma starred with a Man of the Match performance, as he took apart the Australia bowlers for his 92 runs coming off only 41 balls. Which included 8 Sixes and 7 Fours.

India posted a mammoth total of 205/5
Australia's pick of the bowlers being Hazlewood, who finished with outstanding figures of 4-0-14-1. On a day to forget for the Aussie bowlers.

Aussies did not get off to the start they wanted losing Warner for 6 off Arshdeep Singh. A recovery was led by Head and Marsh as they put 81 on for the 2nd wicket. Marsh had fallen prey to Kuldeep Yadav for 37.

Yadav then took the big wicket of Maxwell leaving Aussies 128-3 off 13 overs. Aussies kept losing regular wickets and when Head fell in the 16th over for 76 (43), with the score 150/5 it was all but out of reach for Australia who ended up on 181/7.
Pick of the bowlers being Yadav with figures of 4-0-24-2. Outstanding display of spin bowling in a high scoring game.

This is Australia's second defeat in a row, after a shock defeat to Afghanistan in previous game. All hopes now rely on Afghanistan to lose against Bangladesh but not emphatically, Australia have the best Net Run Rate out of the 3. Therefore Australia will have to wait a little longer to find out their fate, Afghanistan take on Bangladesh in the final Super 8s game of Group 1.
