To mark the 2nd anniversary of Al-Aqsa Flood, i offer some thoughts on cinema’s role in national liberation movements, aka Third Cinema

Bridgett Davis, director of Naked Acts, is making a new short HELGA! A film in which I also have a role! 🖤
What happens to an artist’s soul when their work is overlooked for decades, then suddenly found?
I’m proud to be part of this! Help us fund it: https://t.co/5EREdeIMEd
a lot of ppls reaction to this is the zealotry of the convert bc if you said he’s a zionist during his failed 2016 bid (this interview is from 2017) you were called a nazi. & these same ppl clutched their pearls at the vitriol the kkkama klan spit at them over the same issue smh
Jordan Cooper did 200 days killing kids in Gaza. He died in 2024 bc his mom gave him halva with nuts, which he was evidently deathly allergic to. That halva has done more for Palestinian liberation than youtubers whose bona fides yall have been litigating for the past week. be fr
He’s schmoozed Ari Aster at NYFF, begged Jerod Carmichael & Bo Burnham to see his film lol. Maybe he means something else when he says Fuck Hollywood
You got a production company called Fuck Hollywood but a Joe Scarborough producer and Ilana Glazer are your producing partners. Calling out hollywood racism but majority of your crew is white 🤧
@toky0_martian it was wild back then too Arthur Jafa described it as if luke skywalker didn’t fight darth vader 🤣 but i think him settling for a side hug speaks to how deep his loneliness goes, which to me is more on theme.
a mid-00s straight to TNT thriller throwback to Blaxploitation is a better descriptor than Southern Gothic. Things don’t have to be prestigious to be fun and/or good
Curated some of my all time fav films for this program of docs shots in the Philippines at @MovingImageNYC , including the North American premiere of ALIPATO AT MUOG, Gianvito’s 4 hour+ WAKE (SUBIC), & other US premieres of PH Docs since 2000. May 22-31 https://t.co/z9AAJumWaq

At least literature has educational value and an established canon that is humanist and high quality for the most part. Film has neither (yet, and probably not in our lifetimes).
think again! these were made by organizations for specific purposes not an individual for some vague idea of inspiring the masses. certain communist movements (ex. FSLN) abandoned film because the ppl weren’t cinephiles.
I think this guy thinks the masses are cinephiles who read postcolonial theory to argue about it on twitter cause currently the masses have not watched any of these films you mentioned I fear
