Antimicrobial resistance is one of the greatest global health challenges we face and without action 39m lives could be lost by 2050. Through innovation, collaboration & a #OneHealth approach we can change the future #WAAW2024#AMR#EducateAdvocateAct@FlemingFund
Norovirus is common, highly infectious, can cause serious and unpleasant illness, closes hospital wards especially over winter and is a risk to care homes.
A norovirus vaccine, if effective, would be a major step forward. Thank you to those taking part in and running this trial
Thank you for all your hard work, my exceptional IPC Team (and I do mean YOUR work, as I was getting my learn on in the @HIS_infection Water and wastewater safety in healthcare course! (which I highly recommend for IPC Practitioners!))
As part of International Infection Prevention Week #IIPW#IIPW24, HIS has matched its training courses to the @NHSE IPC education framework to help doctors, nurses and healthcare staff working in IPC to identify the correct training 🎓

Happy #IIPW2024 & thank you to the fabulous FHFT IPC Team💙 who look petrified in our first ever video (& my husband asked why I wasn’t talking in my Glos accent 🤣)
Thanks for being patient with us @ErnieSantosFH - we’ll be experts next time!
We are now in our fourth or fifth Covid wave of the year with little time between waves.
I think this is a consequence of return to school & work plus a cold and wet September. The latest subvariant XEC is not yet prevalent enough here to be driving this wave. 1/2
Annual face to face meet up for the cross-site @FrimleyHealth Infection Prevention Team. Getting to know each other better, starting work on our ambitions for the year, and brave Natalie volunteering as our HCID PPE mannequin in 31 deg discomfort🥵
In completely unrelated news:
2024 marks 20 years of me working as an Infection Prevention nurse @FrimleyHealth, and also turns out to be the year I rediscovered @HeinzUK Sandwich Spread🥪
Paraphrased as ‘everyday I eat some of my (or someone else’s) poo’.
What a great way to acquire life-threatening HUS, whilst also making others sick.
These Olympics may get a gold medal for producing the most infectious diseased group of athletes to date…
One competitor is willing to go to extreme lengths to compete in the triathlon at #Paris2024, even if he's faced with the pollution issues in the River Seine ⚠️

The UK will become the first country in the world to roll out a national vaccination programme against Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), protecting infants & older people from becoming seriously ill. RSV accounts for 39,000 hospitalisations each year.

Monday I return from leave, to an NHS under Labour. So expecting as a min:
- Drs to be given their requested pay increase
- GP surgeries employing qualified GPs
- IENs to not have to pay ££££ to work in this country
- investment in hospital infrastructure that can aide IPC
🙏
🪠There is currently no UK guidance on the management of drain related outbreaks or the design of new buildings to mitigate risk
📖Addressing the challenges from hospital drainage systems should be considered a priority by agencies and guidance developers

Diarrhoea & vomiting bugs can spread easily – but simple actions can help to avoid infecting others, including washing your hands regularly with soap and warm water, and avoiding going to work or school, or preparing food for others until 48 hours after your symptoms clear
