Why this matters... there's something important happening here that doesn't seem to be generally recognized, based on dearth of X discussions. Only ~5 accounts have mentioned moderation since 6/25, and there's no established topic or group I can find... yet. Sexuality / reproduction is the most powerful force in human affairs and behavior, period. X / Grok / Imagine are leading edge. What better venue to sort out the intersection of sexuality and cognitive constructs like Grok and Imagine?
@btorresq25 I usually get about 100+ x 720 videos/day mostly @ 6 seconds with lots of extends. I vary between 6 and 10 seconds depending on the timing I want.
Canceled Grok Heavy before renewal June 1. Feedback - I'm willing to pay, but Grok Imagine is dumb now. Voice sync is terrible, direction following is next to impossible. Significant decline since compute sold to Anthropic, at least that's my impression. Had big plans with Imagine, now moving on.
@doctor_chain@YknZhu@martin_ma_007@imagine "Why Miss Rasputin, your costume is most daring. If we Victorians were to adopt your fashion, the milliners and seamstresses would all go hungry. I daren't dream of how your men are attired... or shall I?"
I had two Heavy accounts, $600/month US, but I upgraded / downgraded as needed, so my costs were more like $200-300/month. Then like many of us I got frustrated and decided to cancel both. At cancel, they offered $100/month for 3 months. So I cancelled one account and have been upgrading downgrading the remaining when I want to generate.
Here's my current take.
Even labotimized, Grok is still pretty amazing. I got used to a higher level of quality and yes, things are now shite in comparison, but what is possible at shite level continues to intrigue me. To avoid moderation and burning up tokens, I avoid compute prime time which for me (EST) is from 6pm to 11pm. Ask grok when compute is at a premium in your time zone and don't generate then.
Some mornings I'm up between 5-7 am to burn up all my Imagine tokens for that day, usually the reset is after midnight. Then I do my other life and come back for more the next morning. I usually get about 100 x 720 videos/day, lots of extends.
Back in the day, we shot film and waited days for the film to be processed. We created a 3D render and waited hours for the render to complete. I used to run complex renders all night long. So what's happening with Grok is annoying to be sure, but folks, welcome to the wild west. AI everything is going to be a cluster fuck and if we want to play close to the edge, we might fall off. Complaints are probably registering with corporate as are cancellations, but after complaining, make something with whatever tools are available.
@fabienr34@elonmusk I kinda imagine they do understand, but like @doctor_chain opines, the decision was made on high to divert resources and the grok staff might not have much recourse.
@noughtiespice I've lost random projects and chunks of projects. Most of the images/videos live on in "files", but without prompts. Feels like using cool but slightly buggy software from the 90s. Expect crashes.
Thanks for the metadata heads up, good to know. Shown below... am I missing something? Also, magic happens ocassionally during video generation and to take a still from one and regenerate, (which I think you mentioned), would be great. I ~just~ figured out contact sheets, might help with character consistency? Stay tuned. I have a sneaking suspicion I'm reinventing the wheel :/
Here's another item for Christmas in July. Stills generated from a starter image (like a profile and full body shot) can be used as reference images, rather than having to download each and reupload, which seems to treat those stills as non grok images. If there's already a way to do this, do tell.
Just canceled my Heavy, effective June 1. I was cleaning up a project yesterday and many files that I didn't delete just vanished. Another project a few weeks back got wiped out and zero support to restore it. I am bummed too about the decline, but not my model, not my cloud. Any ownership I thought I had was illusory.
As you know brother Bear. I was gonna deactivate Grok Heavy but got sucked back in on the scam discount, then (foolishly) started a big project and bought another Heavy.
I'm up in the early AM EST for Imagine and then doing my standard superhero gig. You're a badass to gripe so articulately, doing God's work. We demoderators are Elon's secret long shot for human persistence, on Earth and elsewhere. Just keep reminding him. #elonmusk
Grok - Policy boundaries are fixed. Variable enforcement is due to heuristics and prompt subtlety.
Vickies - What role does compute allocation play? Compute has been allocated away from Imagine, how does that effect variable enforcement?
Grok - None. Compute allocation changes rate limits/throughput for Imagine, not moderation heuristics or variable enforcement.
I just canceled my other Grok Heavy subscription. The account is still active, but no more billing. They sold all the compute to a higher bidder, at least for now. We just don't bring in enough revenue. The compute is in high demand, if we want access we have to monetize the resource. #elon release a local model?
Rate limits imposed, even for top tier Grok subscribers.
All of Colossus 1 (~220k NVIDIA GPUs, 300+ MW) allocated to Anthropic via May 6, 2026 deal.
xAI/SpaceX leased the full cluster (originally for Grok) to boost Claude limits.
