@MartinSLewis @RachelReevesMP I see a number of comments which suggest that not many can save £20,000 a year and I’m sure that’s true. However, the ISA is a good way to save lump sums eg occupational pensions. Thus over several years you can minimise the taxation of interest and preserve your funds.

Great news! A new bill has just been put forward in Iceland's parliament that would ban whaling for good and prohibit the export or sale of whale products.

Representatives of four of Iceland's political parties are backing the bill, arguing that whaling is against the nation's laws, public opinion and cultural heritage.

This is brilliant news and brings us one step closer to making Icelandic whaling history!

Police confirm 2 x white-tailed eagles found dead on moorland in N Ireland were illegally poisoned.

Imagine that, the only moorland managed for driven grouse shooting in N Ireland. Who'd have guessed?

After the coma
I was in a geriatric ward.
Some of the agency night nurses
seemed irritated.
One wouldn't let me have the buzzer.
One got cross
when I fell out of bed.
I was lonely and called home.
Emma couldn't come in.
At least you, Boris
were having parties though.
That's good

Suella Braverman told Parliament “the asylum initial decision backlog is down 17,000”

Home Office stats say “asylum initial decision backlog” is up by thousands instead

My letter to Suella Braverman urging her to correct the record immediately as required by Ministerial Code

The shingle spit at Hill Head, just south of Stubbington, is an important high tide roost for sanderling. We grateful to everyone who keeps clear of this area, giving sanderling the space they need before their migratory journeys back to the Siberian Arctic and Greenland 💙

At a classy but remarkably inexpensive Kyiv restaurant, a rare gathering of some of my most legendary colleagues: Nik Millard (cameraman), Ferle Davies (producer), me, Joe Phua (cameraman), Jeremy Bowen, Fred Scott (cameraman). 200 years’ experience round a single table.
