Disgraceful. Shameful.
The EU can't even muster the barest minimum measures to even start to hold Israel to account.
This failure comes just as Israeli human rights organizations join others in finding that Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

A coalition of 9 EU Member States, incl Ireland, has requested that the EU review its position on trade with illegal Israeli settlements - to ensure it is "brought into line with international law" (read: ended). Important step, reflects a growing desire to act on ICJ findings 👇

“We are breaking the bodies and the minds of the children of Gaza.”
WHO’s emergencies director, Mike Ryan, expressed his frustration about the devastating situation unfolding in Gaza, stating that the world is allowing this “abomination” to continue
This is probably the most authoritative study to date on the number of violent deaths in Gaza in the period Oct 7th to June 30, 2024: https://t.co/9K8Y2XW2YN
It's peer-reviewed, and conducted by academics at the University of Cambridge, the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Yale University and other institutions.
They use a "three-list capture–recapture" method, meaning that they recoup death toll data from 3 independent sources: Gaza hospital lists, an online survey for Palestinians to report relatives’ deaths, and social media obituaries.
Their estimation - with 95% confidence - is that, up until the 30th of June 2024 (so more than 6 months ago), 64 260 Palestinians had been violently killed by Israel and that 59.1% of those were women, children and elderly (above 65 years old).
This number is 41% above that of the Palestinian Ministry of Health, which goes to show they significantly underestimated the death count.
And again, it's very important to keep in mind: these are *violent deaths* only so not people who died of diseases or starvation. And these are only people whose body made its way to the hospital so it *doesn't account* for the thousands buried under the rubble.
Which means that the actual total death count is probably several multiple higher (as an other Lancet study points out, the ratio of indirect deaths per direct death in conflicts such as these is at least 4X: https://t.co/K4p2lheaNB).
Blinne Ní Ghrálaigh KC speaking in Dublin last night: “Ireland must go beyond strong statements” & pass the Occupied Territories Bill. “So what if Ireland is the first State in Europe to do this - let it be the first. Why should Ireland not lead on this?”

Irish lawyer Blinne Ní Ghrálaigh KC, renowned for her powerful statement while advising South Africa at the ICJ, dedicated her Irish Tatler award to the women of Gaza and Palestine.

⚡️ This is an urgent plea for help. Please share it as widely as possible.
Dr. Hossam Abu Safia, speaking from inside Kamal Adwan Hospital, which is now besieged by the Israeli occupation army tanks, reports that the occupation forces are demanding, via drones, the evacuation of the hospital, despite the presence of 150 patients, including children in incubators and on ventilators. The situation is catastrophic!

A very powerful, chilling, report, and should be compulsory viewing for all those who have continued and who continue to provide cover for the far Right Israeli Government. This is about the extermination, as far as possible, of the Palestinians.
Say his name Shaban. The man, the human, the soul behind the photo seen around the world. The man who was burnt alive by an evil regime, while being attached to an IV in a hospital.
The word war crime doesn't even begin to cover this. He is not a number. Not one single person murdered is.
His name was Shaban.
May he rest in peace and rise in power.
