Abducted Oyo Pupils and Teachers Regain Freedom After 56 Days – Presidency
The pupils and teachers kidnapped by bandits in Oyo State have been successfully rescued and freed.
According to a statement from the Presidency, all 39 pupils and 7 teachers abducted from schools in the Ahoro-Esiele community of Oriire Local Government Area regained their freedom after 56 days in captivity.
During the rescue operation, security forces arrested eight kidnappers, who are now in Department of State Services (DSS) custody, while some others were neutralised.
The Presidency confirmed there was no quid pro quo involved in the rescue. A key terrorist kingpin, whose release had been demanded by the abductors, remains in custody and is currently being prosecuted for his crimes.
Security agencies are expected to provide a detailed briefing on the operation in due course.
One teacher, Michael Oyedokun, was unfortunately killed by the abductors earlier during the ordeal.
