Covenant of redemption (also, pactum salutis; covenant of peace): covenant entered into by the persons of the Trinity in the councils of eternity, with the Son mediating its benefits to the elect. This covenant is the basis for all of God’s purposes in nature and history, and it is the foundation and efficacy of the covenant of grace.

God doesn't make mistakes, is never surprised, always gets what he wants, and always wants the right things for himself and his people. That he is not just like us (Ps 50:21) is good news.

What does one do when preaching on justification from the book of Galatians? Among other things, consult the Heidelberg Catechism and R Scott Clark’s commentary.
Please notice which verb the catechism used in HC 59: believe (glaubest; credis). Note well the sort of verbs that are absent: doing, obeying, growing, cooperating, keeping. It is well to remember that salvation is all sola gratia, sola fide. The inheritance in view here is not merely justification but eternal life, which is to say, glorification, which is the consummation of our sanctification.

To be "Catholic" without being "Roman" is what it means to be Protestant. R. Scott Clark explains why it is so important to reject sectarianism & embrace true catholicity. He rightly urges us to follow William Perkins in refusing to concede the adjective "catholic" to Rome.
