Following the successful completion of the Protocol 27 upgrade on Pi Mainnet, Pi Testnet has upgraded to Protocol 28.
Protocol 28 improves how the network handles delays in transaction data and enables developers to upgrade groups of smart contracts at once and change stored data more safely as their applications develop.
All Node operators must upgrade their nodes to Protocol 28 by October 13, 2026, in preparation for the Mainnet Protocol 28 network upgrade on October 16, 2026.
Pi has released several technical updates to KYC and Mainnet migration processes that address specific KYC application corner cases, improve verification processes, and help eligible Pioneers who were previously unable to progress.
KYC and Mainnet migration involve many different checks designed to allow genuine Pioneers to progress while preventing bad actors, bots and those with policy violations.
While most Pioneers move through these processes continuously, certain groups can become stuck because of specific corner cases that require additional evaluation or custom technical solutions.

🚀 PI NETWORK — NEW DEVELOPER TOOLS ARE HERE!
🟣 BUILD. INTEGRATE. LAUNCH.
Pi is expanding the tools available to developers building on Pi! 🔥
✨ NEW DEVELOPER CAPABILITIES
💾 LOCAL STORAGE SUPPORT
Whitelisted Pi Browser apps can now store certain data directly on a Pioneer’s device, helping reduce backend infrastructure needs while keeping locally stored data on the device.
📊 STAKING DATA API
Developers can access app-specific effective staking data, taking into account both the amount of Pi staked and the duration-based boost.
📁 FILE & VIDEO SHARING
With Pi.shareFile, developers can enable users to share files, images, and videos directly through their device’s native sharing functionality.
📚 NEW DEVELOPER DOCUMENTATION
Pi has launched a unified developer documentation destination, bringing technical resources together and creating a clearer journey:
GET STARTED → REGISTER → SANDBOX → INTEGRATE → MAINNET → LAUNCH 🚀
🤖 The documentation also includes AI-assisted guidance for authentication and payments integration.
🌐 WHY IT MATTERS
These updates give developers more building blocks while reducing practical barriers to creating and maintaining applications in the Pi ecosystem.
More tools + better documentation = easier development + more utility. 💜
🔥 THE PI ECOSYSTEM IS BUILDING.
Pi has introduced new capabilities for developers building on Pi! This includes local storage support, access to app-specific staking data, and file and video sharing.
Pi’s new developer documentation is also now released, providing a single destination for technical resources and a clearer path from getting started to building and launching an app on Pi.
Improving developer tools is important for Pi’s broader focus on utility because they directly affect the types of apps and services that developers can create for the community and beyond.
