NOBODY tells Americans this part of the story.
March 11, 2011.
A black, 30-foot wall of ocean swallowed Northeast Japan.
Our government froze. The Pentagon had no orders.
Communications were dead.
You know what Captain Thom Burke and Rear Admiral Robert Girrier did on the USS Ronald Reagan?
They didn't wait for the White House.
They didn't wait for paperwork.
They looked at the TV screen, saw their friend drowning, and committed the ultimate military sin:
UNAUTHORIZED ADVANCE.
โWeโre going. NOW.โ
They turned the massive nuclear carrier full throttle straight into the disaster zone.
Then came the hydrogen explosions at Fukushima.
Radiation plumes drifted across the Pacific.
Every foreign embassy told their citizens: RUN.
The US Embassy ordered an evacuation zone: STAY 50 MILES AWAY.
Did the Ronald Reagan turn around?
DID YOUR SAILORS RUN?
NOT. ONE. INCH.
Nineteen-year-old kids from Texas and Ohio stood on a freezing flight deck, radiation detectors in hand, launching helicopters into blizzards.
They hovered over submerged rooftops, pulling shivering mothers and babies out of the black water.
When Japanese refugees were brought aboard shivering in shock, your sailors gave up their own warm bunks and slept on the cold steel floor.
While the rest of the world ran away from Japan,
AMERICA CHARGED STRAIGHT INTO THE FIRE.
You didn't do it for a treaty.
You didn't do it for politicians.
You saw your friend bleeding, and you kicked the doors down to save us.
Happy 250th, America.
Japan will remember your boys forever. ๐บ๐ธ๐ค๐ฏ๐ต
Remarkable statistic:
Prior to Western Michigan, college football teams were 110,352 - 0 when leading after the end of regulation, dating back to 1869.
@jpep20 If this were a game I would think the game was against me. The injury number this year is insane *and* where are the coaches saying "Player X is in the best shape of his life"
The injuries are so bad this year that it killed coach speak
@SamMonsonNFL Feels like this is the first year we haven't seen everyone is in the best shape of their lives.
How bad are these rookies??? And how washed are these vets???
@greysol77@JavierBlas@grok Why do you need a typical ship? Sea conditions are fairly mild in the Strait, so a smaller boat can navigate it. A small boat is dead if hit at all, so might as well load it up.
@rod_mallo Because of luggage. I don't care what time I board... I care that I not be forced to "courtesy check" my bag. You pay to ensure your carry-on makes it.
@4thandsaturday Nah, Puli didn't sit out. He was injured mid game, with a broken leg. And he played on it for a few minutes! Kobe famously tore his ACL and stayed in to take free throws before exiting.
By your own analogy, Pulisic showed Mamba Mentality to stay out there with a broken bone.
@SkylarSkye3 We don't consider it "Europe" and instead think country by country.
I want to eat the food in France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, etc... but the food in Britain or Finland doesn't excite me.
