🚀 Starting All Over Again: My Journey from Hong Kong to Canada 🇭🇰➡️🇨🇦
Hello, friends! I’m excited to share the adventure of moving from Hong Kong and stepping into a brand-new life in Canada.
🌎Travelling over 15 hours, stepping off a plane, and facing a freezing Canadian winter after the warmth of the East. ❄️🥶
When I proposed to my wife back in 2015, one of my lines was, “Will you travel the world with me?” Little did we know how real that question would become. From saying goodbye to Nigeria in the midst of the pandemic to finding ourselves in the heart of Canada, this journey has been nothing short of an act of faith, courage, and patience.
Starting over is rarely easy. We had to let go of familiar comforts and embrace a whole new world. God, community, and a willingness to laugh at life’s surprises have been our anchors through the unknowns. 🕊️💪
In my newsletter, I share five big lessons we've learned along the way—from leaning on God and taking bold steps to the importance of community and patience. Whether you're in a season of transition, dreaming of a big move, or looking for encouragement to take that next step, I hope our story inspires you. 🙏❤️

P.S Do you have any experience starting over? How easy was it? Any lessons and tips to share? I will be in the comments section.

Behold a new era of leadership at Institute of Nursing Research, Nigeria❗️
In 2016, during a pivotal chapter of my MSc journey at the University of Ibadan, God brought me, Emmanuel Adesuyi @cyrusunik1, and Emmanuel Dairo to a humble flat in Ogbomoso, Nigeria. We weren’t just flatmates but passionate leaders serving as executives at @fcnswz
Together, with hearts full of purpose, we took a deep and critical look at the struggles Nigerian nurses faced in engaging with research. It was here, inspired by God, that we dared to dream of something revolutionary. God led us to start an Institute that could nurture nurses in research and scholarly pursuits while uplifting families and communities through transformative development projects.
From the very beginning, the vision was audacious: an Institute not just for knowledge but one rooted in faith and community under the umbrella of the Fellowship of Christian Nurses South West Zone. It was new, bold, and unlike anything Nigeria had ever seen in the field. Naturally, there was skepticism. How many research studies have you conducted? How many publications do you have? What qualifies you to start an Institute? But the vision was too clear. Eight years down the line, it is clear that we saw the future.
The zone leadership—led by Revd. Olusegun Salako @revsegsal Nr. Olaoluwa Olabode @olaoluwartosin1 , Nr. Stephen Onoviran @stephenonovira and other brilliant minds—believed in the light that flickered within this vision. They saw beyond the criticisms, investing their trust, support, and faith in what we could become.
Eight years later, what started as a small initiative in the corner of South West Nigeria has blossomed into a global force. @inrnigeria now stands as a beacon in the academic world recognized far beyond the borders of Africa. Its impact is felt, its name is respected.
As my tenure as CEO draws to a close, I am filled with deep gratitude. To every leader, colleague, and partner I’ve had the honour of serving alongside, thank you. Your trust in me has been both humbling and empowering. As I step down, I leave with a heart full of memories, lessons, and an unshakeable confidence in the Institute’s future. Though I transition into new roles, my support and dedication to INR will remain steadfast.
To our esteemed Board Chair, Prof. @PriscaAdejumo DNS Dorcas Shonibare @DorcasSho2, and all other visionary board members — you stood by the vision when others wavered. Your belief in us has made all the difference.
As I hand the torch to Dr. Emmanuel Adesuyi, a leader of unwavering vision and passion, I know this marks the beginning of a new chapter of excellence for the Institute of Nursing Research.
To the nursing community across Nigeria, Africa, and the world: your support has been our lifeblood. Together, we’ve accomplished so much — and together, we’ll achieve even more.
Let’s write the next chapter!
