🎶 At first I was afraid, I was petrified…then the @SFWMD started removing invasive vegetation throughout the region. 🌿

🚜 For over 30 years, the District and its partners have systemically cleared invasive melaleuca, and the District’s land managers maintain these areas with very low melaleuca presence year after year.

🌱 Non-native Melaleuca trees were introduced to Florida over a century ago, and very quickly started transforming wetlands and displacing native cypress and sawgrass in the Everglades.

💧 Recently, the District successfully removed invasive melaleuca trees from the bank of the L-30 Canal in Miami-Dade County using the Integrated Pest Management approach.

🐊 Controlling this persistent species is critically important for Everglades restoration, flood control and water quality.
