Millions of people got sick, then got sicker — and then stopped getting better.
They came back with normal labs. Unremarkable imaging.
And the quiet suggestion that maybe the problem wasn't biological.
Long COVID didn't just introduce a new illness. It exposed how modern medicine responds when suffering can't yet be measured.
Modern healthcare systems struggle with:
- Illness without measurable biomarkers
- Symptoms that fluctuate and defy categorization
- Patients — especially women — whose suffering outpaces the science
- Chronic complexity in a system built for acute resolution
What Long COVID revealed was already there.
Patients with ME/CFS, fibromyalgia, and dysautonomia (like POTS) had been describing this reality for decades.
Long COVID just made it impossible to ignore.
In this essay, I explore:
- Why Long COVID exposed cracks in medicine that existed long before the pandemic
- How "we can't explain this" quietly became "this may not be real"
- Why chronically ill patients already knew this story
- How a system built for acute disease failed millions with chronic illness
- Why Long COVID's research funding is catastrophically misaligned with its actual harm
- And what medicine still owes the patients it dismissed

There's not going to be a massive worldwide outbreak of hantavirus that kills millions.
But they're going the right way about spreading it to more people than necessary.
👀
Long COVID research is moving toward a clearer picture: this may not be one illness with one cause. It may be several overlapping problems involving the immune system, blood vessels, nerves, clotting, muscles, sleep, and viral remnants.
Trigger warning.
It takes a while for this disgusting article to reach its point, but when it does, it does it with so much callousness and wanton cruelty.
"Long Covid – the disease that started as a hashtag"
No, you hideous ghouls, it starts as covid infection.
I was 21 when I developed Long COVID. I’d just finished my aerospace engineering degree, ready to build technology that drives economic growth.
I never got to start. I’ve been housebound for 5 years.
I am one of millions.
Sad to see the demise of Cadbury’s but once bought by the U.S. it was inevitable… check out how much of this stuff is used in their diets, and processed foods. Eat old fashioned. Don’t eat late. Cut out empty calories. Move more! Three months to make or break habits
COVID INQUIRY: MODULE 3 REPORT
“Fundamental flaws in the UK’s approach to IPC [infection prevention & control] guidance, for example in relation to the use of PPE, put patients and healthcare workers at risk.”

The authorities have known since 2015 there’s been an immunity gap for MenB ie over 10-11 yr olds. Same for my son in 1999. They had the Men C vaccine but it wasn’t being universally given. Immunity gap. They changed their mind a few months later.
I’m sorry @CadburyUK but your chocolate is now horrid.
Palm oil makes the taste and texture all wrong.
Profiteering above all else has ruined the most famous product from my city.
Should never have sold out to out to Craft.

My take is that the true prevalence of psychosomatic disorders is much lower than what is estimated. However, the prevalence of neuroimmune disorders, like POTS, MECFS and Long COVID, is much more common than estimated and are likely embedded in the prevalence of psychosomatic disorders because many doctors misdiagnose them as psychosomatic.
a few years ago i got covid and never recovered.
i went from exercising every day to completely bedbound.
lost 40lbs. in and out of hospitals for over 2 years.

Clip 3 BBC Politics North:
Luke Akehurst MP says it’s “shocking” that #LongCovid services are being closed when ~2 million people live with the condition and about half consider themselves disabled. Covid is “not yesterday’s problem”, it is still causing events to be cancelled.
WOW- we’re just 68 away from 20,000 letters being sent to the Department of Health, demanding action to end corridor care! 😮🌟
Patients are dying in hospital corridors🚨 and this MUST END - will you send one of the first 20,000 letters? It takes seconds: https://t.co/WNBJS4QvR3
So 79 year old Trump and 76 year old Netanyahu are throwing bombs at the 86 year old Ayatollah who is retaliating. Clearly, the route to world peace is to take over-75 year old men out of the picture.
