What transpired in the meeting between Church leaders and HM Amit Shah on July 10-
Mr. Shah informed the delegation that out of the total ₹17,000 crore in foreign donations that came to the country last year, just about ₹3,000 crore was meant for Christian bodies. “The Minister asserted that the Bill was meant to regulate foreign funding and it was not against any religious community. He also acknowledged the church’s contribution to nation building,” Jonathan Lalremruata said while giving the details of the meeting that went on for 45 minutes.
The Minister advised that all cases of aggression against the church or the community should be reported to the police.
“The Minister asked us to ensure that a First Information Report (FIR) is filed in all such cases of aggression. When we told him that the police refuses to register our complaints, the Minister asked us to report the matter to MHA. He also recalled a couple of incidents where he intervened to ensure justice to the community,” Mr. Lalremruata said.

This clip, shot towards the end of the Jantar Mantar protest, brought tears to my eyes. The young student persevered until the lady Deputy Commandant from @crpfindia gracefully accepted the rose.

Such heart-rending moments of humanity from either side should stir the conscience of every true patriot.
The students were fighting for a genuine cause, while the cops too were discharging a duty entrusted to them. A lot of protesters sustained injuries and so did some cops.

We also saw a conscientious IPS Officer, Shailja Das, directing her personnel not to use force merely because protesters were raising offensive slogans. It was also heartening to see @Cockroachisback leadership @abhijeet_dipke appealing for removal of unruly infiltrators & miscreants when violence got triggered on July 20. Mass rendition of the national anthem and patriotic songs was simply overwhelming.

At the other extreme, however, we have witnessed some police officers flouting even Standard Operating Procedures on minimum use of force and indulging in disgusting assault on girls, seemingly in an attempt to prove themselves more loyal than their masters.

Unfortunately, vulgar memes by some misguided youngsters (in a quest for followers on SM, though some seemed genuinely angry too) miscreants and infiltrators, along with instances of excessive and disgusting use of force by the @DelhiPolice, @crpfindia and RAF, are hogging the limelight on social media, overshadowing such deeply moving and humane moments.

Living with pellets in their body- Two weeks after at least four protesters sustained pellet injuries during the July 20 protest march to Parliament, some pellets remain lodged in their bodies, with doctors removing only those that pose a greater risk if left inside.
Prashant Kumar Singh, a 25-year-old artist who was among the protesters injured by pellets, was discharged from hospital on Tuesday after undergoing surgery to remove multiple pellets.
According to him, around 15 pellets were lodged in his body, causing multiple injuries to his arm, forearm and chest.
Last week, Mr. Singh had said he was unable to work on his artwork because the injuries were on his right hand.

As reported by The Hindu, the rehearsal for the Population Enumeration (PE) phase was conducted from July 1-20 in 16 States and Union Territories where respondents, other than Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes, recorded their castes in an “open column” or the enumerator noted a resident’s caste as declared by them.

The final questionnaire is likely to include 28 questions. Among the questions that are likely to be asked first time are whether respondents consume “packaged or bottled water” and likely include “natural calamities” among the reasons for migration, alongside more conventional categories such as education, marriage, work and business. It is also likely to provide a detailed code directory on educational qualification rather than the earlier practice of self declaration.

The questions for the second phase of the Population Census 2027 are likely to be notified next week, days before the exercise, which will reveal how caste is to be enumerated in independent India, begins on August 17 in Ladakh and snow-bound areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, ahead of the rest of the country where the exercise is to be held in February 2027.
