In a developing country, commodities don’t often become cheaper unless there is a huge surplus in supply. Their prices generally tend to go up over time.

So the real question should be whether commodities have become more affordable or not.

For example, let’s say in 2015 your total household consumption was ₹8,000 while your income was ₹15,000. Today, your household consumption may have increased to ₹16,000, but your income has also increased to ₹30,000. In this example, your purchasing power has remained proportionally similar despite commodity prices doubling.

The real concern is when commodity prices rise faster than your income. That’s when affordability and purchasing power actually start becoming a problem.

Take these numbers only as an example, not as actual data.
