STUDY: Drivers of bigger vehicles such as pickup trucks & SUVs are more likely to hit & kill pedestrians than drivers of cars. Pedestrian deaths on US roads are up 59% since 2009, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. @USAToday

@PeterSGreenberg Burning heavy fuels with no particle filters; bad pay and working conditions that skirt local labour laws; an over-sized presence in the cities they visit given the small amounts spent per customer; and so much more. The industry has a long way to go...
@SonyKapoor I think the opposite is more interesting. How much is our actual consumption in Norway costing the climate. Same for China -- their emissions are high but that's due to the rest of the world's demand, not China's. Where does Norway rank in that ranking? Probably pretty poorly too
@the_transit_guy Not parks here in Oslo but an immense wilderness with hundreds of lakes, moose, wild berries galore ... surrounds the city on three sides, and the fjord is on the fourth. Stops urban sprawl and gives amazing access to nature to all inhabitants.
If walking costs you $1, we all pay $0.01. If biking costs you $1, we all pay $0.08. If bussing costs you $1, we all pay $1.50. If driving costs you $1, we all pay $9.20. Via @thediscourse study.
This isn’t just about choice. It’s about who pays for your choice.

@pekkatahkola@WorldWinterBike In about one hour from now, I will be leading a guided winter bike tour using studded tires, which most of our customers have never tried before, but are always enthusiastic about after the amazing winter biking experience. We ❤️ ❄️🚴♀️.
This video camera study showed that less than 5% of people on bikes break traffic laws while riding, yet 66% of people do so when driving. And if you REALLY want even MORE bike-riders to obey laws, build more protected bike infrastructure. Via @carltonreid https://t.co/fP5NYJOkXy
There is no 'War on Cars'.
There is an ongoing massacre on all other road users.

@amazingmap Here in Northern Europe, we have a good number of useless hours of sunshine. Multiple months in the summer have sun at 3am, 4am and 5am for example. So the numbers are slightly inflated, meaning our already low number of sunshine hours feels even less in reality.
@jamessmithPT_ "Get vaccinated to keep the hospitals from getting overrun so other people can access the treatments they need" was not a farce. The vaccines did not reduce transmission as hoped, but massive vaccination certainly saved other people by massively freeing up hospital capacity.
@andershartmann 25% VAT on electric bikes no matter what the price. A bit ridiculous that a car worth 490,000 kroner is tax free but my e-bike is hit with a heavy VAT. Wrong priorities for sure: we need more 🚴♂️ and fewer 🚗
