All narcissists lack behavioral regulation. Malignant narcissists, like Trump, also lack any behavioral counterbalance. Because all the positive emotion that offsets normal behavior, is missing. They're an unloved void.
All narcissists also lie a lot. When facing a threat, they tell bigger lies. When a malignant narcissist, like Trump, faces threats, their lies are often projections - the diametric opposite of truth. "I did nothing wrong" means he's GUILTY. "If you don't elect me, America is no more" means if you don't elect him, HE is no more. "I know everything about X" means "I don't know squat about X."
The emotion driving narcissists might look like rage, but in reality - it's fear. They need to "win," they see everything as a zero-sum game, and when they can't ram home their reality, they are quick to feel dread, then terror. Like with the Epstein story.
Malignant narcissists, like Trump, flail and make threats when fearful. Each time they lose or fail to control a narrative, they try to invent new reality, new urgencies, with an "or else." When THAT fails, when people ignore or scoff at their threats, they distract and deflect and lash out. That's their panic.
We're watching Trump flail, make threats, distract and deflect and lash out. He is a malignant narcissist, in decline, unwell and running out of time, in a panic.
On a personal note, if there is one thing I said in this post that I wish more people would recognize and process, it's that the emotion driving malignant narcissists, is fear. Their bluster and bravado are how they process fear.
