Sunderland join Brighton in race for Serbian starlet

Sunderland are reportedly interested in exploring a deal to sign Serbian defender Nikola Simic from Partizan Belgrade.

Simic was named in the Serbian SuperLiga team of the season in 2025/26 as he shone for Partizan at the age of 19.

The 6ft 4ins centre-back has featured 41 times in the league since progressing through the club's academy and breaking into the first-team.

He has also earned recognition by making two appearances for Serbia this year.

His performances have caught the eye of a number of Premier League clubs and it appears a trio of clubs are now interested.

One of the our brightest generations (2007) are, once again, among Europe's top eight national teams, earning a well-deserved place at this year’s Euros.

I haven't said much since the withdrawals started because, honestly, I was in shock. It's safe to say that 7 of the projected XI are missing. That's a massive blow for the coaching staff, but the most important thing is that the squad has come together and the mentality and objective remain unchanged - winning the trophy 🏆

Even before these withdrawals, the main goal was to finish in the TOP 5 and secure qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup. This should be the “last dance” for this generation and their final opportunity to leave a lasting legacy as one of the most talented groups we've had.

Opening match is already tomorrow against one of the tournament favourites, Italy. They boast an incredibly talented generation, led by Borussia duo Samuele Inacio & Luca Reggiani.

Quite a few 2008-born players have stepped in to fill the vacant spots, and they could prove to be our X-factor. They'll be eager to prove themselves alongside the older players, so expect the unexpected.
