Did you know there were more Black men in medical school in 1978 than there were in 2014? The stats may seem discouraging at times, but I choose to see it as motivation. It’s no accident that I’m here, and you best believe I’m bringing the people with me.
We are getting so close to reaching our goal for securing our Community Platform! Thank you to those that have shared or donated! @PopuliFound https://t.co/gtGtNOXOvw
@PopuliFound is a nonprofit I co-founded alongside @AyeshaDholakia and Balaji Jothishankar, 2 of my classmates from medical school. In just 6 months, we have been able to connect nearly 100 pre-medical students with their very own medical student mentor!
You can learn more about our foundation via our website in my bio! If you are looking to donate, please tap the following link to be brought to our Give Lively fundraising page! https://t.co/gtGtNOXOvw
Welcome to #MedTwitter, @PopuliFound! The Populi Foundation is a nonprofit started by our own Pritzker students that provides #premed counseling to students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Learn more & apply to be a #medstudent mentor or Populi Scholar at: https://t.co/J2AVfsQcN5
To Med students: I truly encourage taking up new hobbies/activities. Learning how to “suck” at something gracefully by understanding, processing, and ultimately moving beyond embarrassment and frustration will pay enormous dividends. It will help you become a better physician.
#BlackInTheIvory is respectfully nodding and smiling at all the janitorial staff as you make rounds in the hospital. “What’s up, Doc?!” is more than just asking how you are. It’s also saying “I’m proud of you for making it.”
Also big ups to my good friend @VinceKMorgan for graduating yesterday. He is an incredible example of a friend, advocate, and new physician. Honored to call him a friend.
Congratulations to the Pritzker Class of 2020! While their degrees will be formally conferred in June, today we hold the virtual Divisional Academic Ceremony, which allows us to celebrate our graduates before they go near and far for residency training.
Congrats to @UChicagoMed medical student and @MountCarmelHS grad @VinceKMorgan for being one of only 9 Honors graduates in this year’s graduating class and for winning the Advocacy & Equity award. Vince is the best of our medical school and #SouthSide community! #WeareMC
