J. Robertson just turned down $15M for 8 years in Seattle. That organization is really going nowhere. Panarin didn't want to go there, Robertson doesn't want to go there and they keep handing out long-term contracts to average players. The Kraken have been as mediocre as it gets.
We have acquired a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick in the NHL Draft from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for forward Valeri Nichushkin.
We don't have the Rucks super far away from one another, both of them about coinflips to become full-time players. It's interesting how they both profile as give-and-go players who don't need the puck for long; Teravainen vibes a bit. Would be cool if they ended up together.
TRADE: We have acquired a fifth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft and a fourth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft from Florida in exchange for forward Garnet Hathaway and a sixth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. https://t.co/HxSszo5ke8
NEWS | The Washington Capitals have acquired forward Alex Tuch from the Buffalo Sabres for a 2027 third-round pick (originally from San Jose) and forward David Kampf. Prior to the trade, Buffalo signed Tuch to an eight-year, $84 million contract extension.

BREAKING: The Charlotte Hornets are trading star guard LaMelo Ball and Josh Green to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Naz Reid, a 2033 unprotected first-round pick, three first-round pick swaps (2028, 2029, 2030) and three second-round picks (2029, 2032, 2033), sources tell ESPN.
We have traded Jack Drury and Chase Bradley and our own 3rd Round Pick in the 2029 NHL Entry Draft to Nashville in exchange for Players Fedor Svechkov and Zachary L’Heureux.
Ok.
Now that the initial shock and disgust wore off...
...let's unpack this deal.
At 4th overall, the Blackhawks were getting a player that would go to college for two years and then take two more years to develop into an NHL-er.
With Byram, we skip at least 4 years forward and remove the uncertainty if the player will even hit or bust.
Byram will be in the lineup NEXT YEAR helping the other young guys along, while still being YOUNG ENOUGH to fit in.
It's an overpay when you look at the transaction.
But when you factor in the CONTEXT and TIMELINES it makes sense.
June 29th, 2016:

July 23rd, 2021:

June 23rd, 2026:
