Morrison Hotel. The Doors, 1970. Photo by Henry Diltz. The photo was taken in December 1969 at the actual Morrison Hotel located on South Hope Street in downtown Los Angeles. The band and Diltz did not have permission to use the hotel's interior, so they waited until the desk clerk stepped away and quickly ran behind the window to capture the shot in one roll of film.
The back cover of the album features a photograph of the nearby Hard Rock Café, a dive bar on East 5th Street, which eventually inspired the name for the international chain of restaurants.
