Donald Trump took us to war without a plan. Families have lost loved ones. Billions of dollars have been spent. For what? This “deal” he signed leaves Iran stronger and in control of the Strait, but does little to advance US interests. The “master deal maker” just made one of the worst deals in US history. This is a total capitulation! What’s next, the Russians get Alaska?
Marshall: You have assets that are going to be unfrozen. What do we get? We get a strait that was opened before reopened. We get a temporary hold on no tolls.
This is why have you bipartisan support against this. This is why I agree with Nikki Haley, Mike Pence, Trey Gowdy. It's a bad deal when people like them and I are agreeing on this.
The MOU is all carrots, no sticks. And the administration lied all week claiming the leaked versions weren’t the actual deal because they knew it was so terrible. Trump’s only choice is to blame Vance, which he’ll happily do.
Ben Shapiro called it a “disaster.” Bill Cassidy called it “the worst foreign policy blunder in decades.”
The agreement includes sanctions relief, oil export waivers, the release of frozen assets, and a $300 billion reconstruction commitment, while many of the administration’s original objectives remain unresolved or discarded. It’s bad!
March 9: "We're now totally independent of the Middle East. We don't need their oil."
April 1: "It doesn't really affect us. We have so much oil. We have tremendous oil and gas, much more than we need."
June 17: If I didn't agree to the MOU, we "would run out of reserves at about 4 weeks...we would really run out, and there'll be a time when you wouldn't be able to get it."
Wow.
Iran gets sanctions relief, the release of frozen funds, the ability to export oil, and a $300 billion reconstruction fund.
The U.S. gets a reiteration of the vague promise Iran won’t develop a nuke.
Hard to imagine a more thorough capitulation.
The Iran War MOU reads as TOTAL surrender by the US. I hope this isn’t accurate. If the Obama Administration had published this - we would be calling it a total capitulation to the Islamic Republic.
According to language that has been reported about MOU with Iran, there is:
🔴 NO mention of dismantling the nuclear program or the ballistic missile program.
🔴 NO commitment to ending support for Hamas, Hezbollah, or other terrorist organizations
But remarkably, the MOU with Iran reportedly includes:
🔴Immediate sanctions relief from the moment the MOU is signed. This means $3 BILLION a month into the coffers of Iran.
🔴A pledge of $100 billion in Iranian frozen assets being freed up based only on “progress” in negotiations
🔴The U.S. & others to arrange for a $300 billion reconstruction fund for Iran.
The reported MOU with Iran smacks of the kind of appeasement that we saw during the Obama years, the kind of appeasement that Joe Biden tried to accomplish and was ignored by the Iranians, and the kind of appeasement we categorically rejected during the first Trump administration.
