🇷🇴 CĂLIN GEORGESCU
The people vote. Brussels decides?
Romania’s 2024 presidential election was annulled by the Constitutional Court.
His bodyguard, Marin Burcea, is also there, standing by him and showing his support. Burcea has been identified in reporting as the coordinator of Georgescu’s security team.

The more Romania’s system and those who oppose Călin Georgescu try to silence him, arrest him, or make him disappear, the more people will rally behind him — and the more support he will gain.
Justice for Romania. 🇷🇴
🫡A fourth night of protests outside the Central Detention Facility, where Călin Georgescu is being held. Hundreds of people are chanting slogans in support of the former presidential candidate.🇷🇴
EURO JUMPS TO 5.34 LEI! THE ROMANIAN LEU LOSES GROUND SHARPLY IN A SINGLE DAY 🇷🇴💶
Today, 2 October 2026, the euro reached 5.3447 lei, almost 7 bani higher than yesterday. The US dollar, British pound and Swiss franc also rose sharply against the Romanian currency.
A weaker LEU can put additional pressure on imports, euro-linked loans and contracts, and could indirectly contribute to higher prices for consumers.
The big question now is: is this just a day of market volatility, or are we entering a new period of depreciation for the Romanian leu?

AN APPEAL TO THE WORLD🌎🇷🇴
Romania is going through a profound political and democratic dispute, and many Romanians believe that recent events have raised serious questions about democracy, justice and political representation.
Călin Georgescu, a former presidential candidate backed by millions of Romanian voters, has been placed in 30-day pre-trial detention.
His supporters are taking to the streets and calling for international attention, arguing that what is happening in Romania should be closely watched by the wider democratic world.👏🏻
WE NEED THE WORLD TO PAY ATTENTION.
Hear the voices of Romanian citizens.
Follow what is happening in Romania.
Defend the principles of democracy, justice and fundamental freedoms everywhere.
ROMANIA MUST BE SEEN.
ROMANIA MUST BE HEARD.
Please do not remain silent.🇷🇴🌎
⚠️ CĂLIN GEORGESCU IS NOW HELD IN BUCHAREST’S CENTRAL DETENTION FACILITY.
According to Gândul sources, he is being detained alongside three men accused in separate major drug-trafficking cases.
One of the cases involves an international criminal network linked to the transport of approximately 1.7 TONNES of cocaine, cannabis and hashish across Europe, with reported links to Albanian trafficking groups.
The three men named by the publication are Tiberiu Marian Bîzu, Alexandru Costin Muraru and Laurențiu Stan.
This is the detention environment in which Romania’s former presidential candidate is currently being held.
🇷🇴 What do you think about this situation?

Nicușor Dan seems deeply concerned about the reported 9 million TikTok accounts in Romania. ⚠️
At this rate, you could almost think he’d rather see them all shut down.
The real question is: regulation, censorship, or freedom of speech? 🇷🇴🇪🇺🌍

Romania needs to uphold democratic principles and respect the will expressed by Romanian voters in the 2024 presidential election, including the votes cast for Călin Georgescu.🫡🇷🇴🌎
For the third consecutive night, Romanians are gathering to show their support for Călin Georgescu.

🚨 ROMANIA: CĂLIN GEORGESCU ORDERED INTO 30-DAY PRETRIAL DETENTION
Look at this photograph.
A former presidential candidate.
Handcuffed.
Surrounded by police.
Led through a wall of cameras.
And Romania is once again being forced to ask what is happening to its democracy.
Călin Georgescu has now been ordered into 30 days of pretrial detention while prosecutors investigate an alleged €1.1 million fraud.
He denies wrongdoing.
George Simion has called for his freedom and described what is happening as political persecution.
Those are serious claims.
And after everything Romania has already been through — the cancelled presidential election, the political upheaval and the continuing questions surrounding Georgescu — this cannot simply be treated as another routine court case.
The evidence must be examined.
The allegations must be tested.
Due process must be respected.
But the Romanian people are also entitled to ask:
Why now?
Is the evidence strong enough to justify detention?
Will the proceedings be completely transparent?
And can Romania’s institutions convince a deeply divided public that justice is being done — rather than politics being pursued through the courts?
Georgescu is entitled to the presumption of innocence.
But Romania is also entitled to answers.
Because when a country cancels a presidential election and then sees one of its most prominent political figures led away in handcuffs—
public trust becomes part of the story.
And the world should be watching closely. @georgesimion@partidulAUR_RO

🇷🇴 Yesterday, thousands of Romanians once again protested the arrest of Georgescu, who won the first round of the 2024 presidential election, which was subsequently suspended.
The Romanians demonstrated in front of the detention center, chanting:
“Georgescu is OUR president!”

🇷🇴 Călin Georgescu, the man who shocked Romania’s entire political establishment in 2024 and won the first round of the presidential election, is now being held in pre-trial detention for 30 days.
Nearly two years have passed since the vote that threw Romania into an unprecedented political crisis. The election was annulled, Georgescu was later prevented from running again, and now he is behind bars in a separate case, with the accusations still to be proven in court.
For me, the image we are seeing today is extremely serious.
A candidate who won the first round of the presidential election ends up in detention two years later. The election was cancelled. His candidacy was blocked. And now his freedom has been restricted.
And on top of all this comes another statement that should raise serious questions for every Romanian, regardless of political preference.
President Nicușor Dan has publicly said that AUR entering government would damage Romania’s relations with its partners, including its security partners and the European Union.
So the question becomes unavoidable:
WHO DECIDES WHO IS ALLOWED TO GOVERN ROMANIA?
The Romanian people, through their vote?
Or political acceptability in the eyes of so-called “external partners”?
Brussels?
European institutions?
The leaders at the top of the European Union?
Because if a party supported by millions of Romanians can be treated as unfit to govern not through the ballot box, but because of how foreign partners might react, then Romania has a serious problem of democratic representation.
This is no longer only about Călin Georgescu.
It is no longer only about AUR.
It is about a much bigger question:
🇷🇴 HOW MUCH IS THE ROMANIAN PEOPLE’S VOTE REALLY WORTH IF, IN THE END, OTHERS DECIDE WHO IS “ACCEPTABLE” AND WHO IS NOT?
🇷🇴 Călin Georgescu remains at the centre of a major political and judicial controversy in Romania. His supporters say he continues to be persecuted. After initially being detained and later placed under judicial control, a prosecutor’s appeal resulted in him being remanded in cus
