Azista Space's Historic First: Capturing the Carina Nebula (NGC 3372)!

Azista Space has achieved a first-of-its-kind milestone for a private Indian space entity with a validated astrophotography image of the Carina Nebula, located approximately 7,500 light-years away.

The image was captured by the AFR satellite on 31 July 2026 at 06:07:30 IST (00:37:30 UTC).

Overcoming the challenges of faint nebular emissions and limited photon flux, the team reconfigured the payload for deep-space imaging and achieved a 100-second effective exposure, collecting over 240,000 times more light than a typical Earth-observation image.

The image processing was performed in-house at Azista’s SBU - APRIL - Advanced Pixel Research & Intelligence Lab using its proprietary SCULPT (Scientific Construction of Satellite Data Products Toolkit) suite.

This achievement demonstrates Azista Space’s growing capabilities in spacecraft operations and payload configuration, as well as low-light spaceborne imaging, reflecting the increasing technological depth and maturity of India’s private space ecosystem.

From observing Earth to looking deep into the cosmos, AFR continues to push new boundaries.

Had to call off today’s launch attempt of Agnibaan SOrTeD just a second into Automated Launch Sequence (ALS) initiation (at T-129 seconds) because of a communication issue between 2 of our onboard hardware. Although it is frustrating to see a HOLD this close to lift off, we are glad that our ALS did its job. We’ll get to the root cause and come back for launch after a fixing the cause.
