Will say it again, @RahulGandhi stands 100% vindicated. People accused him of creating issue on #VoteChori when it wasn’t, mocked him, didn’t support him, his own party people. ECINet app is the heart of electoral list. It has a centralised database management system that processes voter registrations, migrations, collections and deletions.

Whosoever controls the app, controls the electoral roll.

Two big issues...

1. It is becoming more and more centralised (one of the concerns raised by ECs). It is taking away autonomous operational control historically held by State Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) and local Electoral Registration Officers (EROs). The more centralised it becomes, the more power goes into a few hands.

2. It has reported security issues and malfunctioning. Recently, it mistakenly flagged massive numbers of legitimate voters due to simple script translation anomalies or age-gap math errors. This resulted in 1.76 crore notices being sent to voters across multiple states. It has poor security ratings on external portals connecting to the database.

Whether EVMs are hacked or ECINet is breached, we know who stands to benefit.

All this while, people thought that only EVMs are manipulated.
The issue could be much bigger and foundational with ECINet.
