NEW, JUST IN. Did you know that Missouri returned a staggering $42 million in federal funds that were meant for child nutrition programs?

And it's projected to send back $51 million this year!

Imagine how much of a difference that money could have made in the lives of children who rely on these programs.

This is occurring under a GOP Supermajority that identifies as "pro-life."

Approximately 429,000 children in Missouri could be eligible for $51.5 million in food benefits during the upcoming summer if the state opts to take part in the program.

The state has faced challenges administering the Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) program due to administrative hurdles and limitations in state and local data collection systems.

Over 259,000 children have been issued summer 2022 P-EBT benefits, but 55,600 have not due to data issues.

The state's decision has sparked frustration among Missouri families, who feel that this decision has robbed them of needed support.

Despite these challenges, Missouri has expressed intentions to focus on implementing system changes to facilitate participation in future EBT programs.

Being uncomfortable with the decision is purely political. But the decision was a legal one, not a political one. Disqualifying trump under the 14th Amendment is an argument FOR democracy, not against it. The Constitution provides for it.
