Our paper in the Lancet today shows that B.1.1.7 was not associated with more severe illness or death in hospitalised patients admitted to UCLH and NMUH in England between November and December 2020.

Patients with B.1.1.7 had on average a higher viral load which may increase transmissibility as has been reported previously in other studies.
