The Reality of the "Necessity" Clause in Islamic Law.

When analyzing the foundational texts of Islamic law regarding dietary restrictions, a clear picture emerges about how the text actually defines exceptions to the rules. There is a common narrative that a Muslim is only permitted to consume prohibited foods under the most extreme, life-threatening conditions—such as being stranded in a desert facing imminent death. However, examining the literal source text reveals a much more flexible legal standard.

The primary rules governing these dietary restrictions, specifically regarding pork, are laid out across three major chapters of the text: Surah Al-Baqarah (2:173), Surah Al-Nahl (16:115), and Surah Al-An'am (6:145).

In Surah Al-Baqarah 2:173, the text states:
إِنَّمَا حَرَّمَ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْمَيْتَةَ وَٱلدَّمَ وَلَحْمَ ٱلْخِنزِيرِ وَمَآ أُهِلَّ بِهِۦ لِغَيْرِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ فَمَنِ ٱضْطُرَّ غَيْرَ بَاغٍۢ وَلَا عَادٍۢ فَلَآ إِثْمَ عَلَيْهِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌۭ رَّحِيمٌ ١٧٣
He hath forbidden you only carrion, and blood, and swineflesh, and that which hath been immolated to (the name of) any other than Allah. But he who is driven by necessity, neither craving nor transgressing, it is no sin for him. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
This exact legal standard is reinforced in Surah Al-Nahl 16:115:
إِنَّمَا حَرَّمَ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْمَيْتَةَ وَٱلدَّمَ وَلَحْمَ ٱلْخِنزِيرِ وَمَآ أُهِلَّ لِغَيْرِ ٱللَّهِ بِهِۦ ۖ فَمَنِ ٱضْطُرَّ غَيْرَ بَاغٍۢ وَلَا عَادٍۢ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ ١١٥
However, if anyone is compelled by necessity - neither seeking pleasure, nor crossing the limit (of necessity) - then, Allah is Most-Forgiving, Very-Merciful.

The rule is stated a third time in Surah Al-An'am 6:145:
قُل لَّآ أَجِدُ فِى مَآ أُوحِىَ إِلَىَّ مُحَرَّمًا عَلَىٰ طَاعِمٍۢ يَطْعَمُهُۥٓ إِلَّآ أَن يَكُونَ مَيْتَةً أَوْ دَمًۭا مَّسْفُوحًا أَوْ لَحْمَ خِنزِيرٍۢ فَإِنَّهُۥ رِجْسٌ أَوْ فِسْقًا أُهِلَّ لِغَيْرِ ٱللَّهِ بِهِۦ ۚ فَمَنِ ٱضْطُرَّ غَيْرَ بَاغٍۢ وَلَا عَادٍۢ فَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ غَفُورٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ ١٤٥
Say: I find not in that which is revealed unto me aught prohibited to an eater that he eat thereof, except it be carrion, or blood poured forth, or swineflesh - for that verily is foul - or the abomination which was immolated to the name of other than Allah. But whoso is compelled (thereto), neither craving nor transgressing, (for him) lo! thy Lord is Forgiving, Merciful.

Looking closely at the literal wording across all three of these verses, it does not make any mention of a desert, nor does it explicitly state that a person must be on the absolute brink of death.

The Arabic term utilized is "idturra," which translates directly to being compelled, forced, or driven by necessity. The text sets a boundary based on basic necessity, provided the individual is not actively craving the meat or intentionally exceeding the limit of what is required.

Ultimately, the literal text establishes that Muslims can eat pork out of basic necessity. The strict, dramatic requirements often repeated in external commentary—like the necessity of a desert environment or being seconds away from starvation—are simply not found in the actual literature of these three core verses.

A few days ago, an Indian Air Force aircraft crashed in Jorhat, Assam, claiming the life of Lt. Shubham Kumar from Bihar.

Following his martyrdom, the Bihar government handed over a compensation cheque of ₹21 lakh to his fiancée, Shreya Roy, treating her as his legally recognized spouse. This sparked widespread debate after reports claimed that, instead of staying with Lt. Shubham's grieving parents during their time of loss, she left for her parental home, with much of the public discussion centering around the compensation.

Now, in a significant development, Chairman of the Soldiers' Welfare Board Sandeep Tiwari has handed over a cheque of ₹1.5 crore to Lt. Shubham Kumar's parents.

మిత్రులారా, అందరూ ఆరోగ్యంగా, ఆనందంగా ఉండాలని ఆశిస్తూ ఆరోగ్య సమస్యలు వస్తె "హాస్పిటల్" లో అడ్మిట్ కావద్దు.

ఔట్ పేషెంట్ గా బయట క్లినిక్స్ లో ఇద్దరు,ముగ్గురు డాక్టర్స్ ఒపీనియన్ తీసుకోండి. తప్పులేదు.

అంతే గానీ ఎట్టిపరిస్థితుల్లో తొందర పడి, వైద్యులు పెట్టె భయాలకు లొంగీ ICU, IP గా జాయిన్ కావద్దు.

చాలా మంది కమర్షియల్ అయిపోయారు.

హాస్పిటల్స్ లో జరిగే విషయాలు చాలా భయంకరంగా ఉంటాయి.

ఉన్న రోగం చిన్నది. రోజుల తరబడి ఉండడం వల్ల కొత్త రోగాలు పుట్టుకొచ్చి బాడీ పూర్తిగా క్షీణించి పోదా??

అదే జరిగింది మహానుభావుడు మన ఎస్పీ బాలు విషయంలో. ఇంకో పది ఏండ్లు "బ్రతికే" అవకాశం ఉన్న మనిషి ఆయన.

అందుకే మిత్రులారా హాస్పిటల్... అది ఎలాంటి దైనా ఔట్ పేషెంట్ గా సేవలు పొందండి.

Oracle just closed the most profitable year in its history.

For the financial year that ended in May 2026, the company reported revenue of around 67 billion dollars, its highest ever, with profits sharply up.

A few weeks before those results, it did something else.

In the middle of May, final year students at several IITs and NITs were told the job offers Oracle had given them were cancelled.

The institutes reportedly affected included IIT Hyderabad, IIT Roorkee, IIT (BHU) Varanasi, NIT Warangal and VNIT Nagpur, among others.

Both full time offers and pre placement offers were withdrawn.

The reason given was internal restructuring and the closure of certain business units, including parts of Oracle Health.

One official communication shared by a campus stated plainly that the offers had been pulled at no fault of the selected candidates.

The timing left them with no fallback.

Many IITs and NITs follow a one student one offer rule. Once a student accepts a company, they cannot sit for other recruiters.

When Oracle withdrew, those students had already turned away every other option, and the placement season was nearly over.

The cancellations followed Oracle’s global layoffs earlier in 2026, which reports placed at around 30,000 jobs worldwide, with thousands in India.

Oracle has not publicly commented on the withdrawn offers.

For the affected students, the hardest part is not that they failed an interview or lost a competition.

They won.

They got the offer, stopped looking elsewhere, and planned their future around a promise that disappeared weeks before graduation.
