@Miss_Guacamole @JulianH_Edu LOL, this is how I view it too! Unfortunately, it feels more like another to-do box on our list of student duties, rather than an act of socialization and interaction
#ETEC681 A7: This was so much fun! I felt like I got to bond with my peers in a very unique way, what with gifs and all :') Can't speak to each other with gifs on Zoom, after all!
#ETEC681 A6: In 1 course, we had breakout rooms at the start of class, where we were given prompts to discuss in groups. A great way to reflect on class-related material while forming bonds with peers!
@j_a_corrigan I think this may be with regards to extrinsic motivation, but I find having incentives and personal check-ins every class helps foster morale and motivation a lot! I also love talking to peers in breakout rooms about how we're personally progressing in the course thus far
@j_a_corrigan#ETEC681 A5: Honestly? I'm loving this Twitter live chat feature! I didn't think it'd feel as engaging as it is, prior to signing in. Something about it being live in an INFORMAL environment I think (a social media site, as opposed to Moodle or Zoom)
@ToursdelaTable Haha yes, this might be the one! It's marketed everywhere- but for good reason I think. The reviews were GLOWING, which is why I decided to give it a shot! :')
#ETEC681 A2: Loved Yale's "The Science of Wellbeing" course on Coursera. This particular course was video-based, making it feel more intimate and engaging (as though following along with a Youtuber or something), while creating an "emotional tether" with us learners.
@JulianH_Edu Oh God yes-- the Moodle discussion threads aren't my most favourite way of speaking with peers. It'd be so cool to actually have class discord channels or something! A lot easier and less overwhelming to follow along with!!
@SaraS1lveira @j_a_corrigan Can attest to ALL these reasons provided. Sighs :'( Thank goodness we're in a class where we will learn how to combat these things though! :')
@j_a_corrigan#ETEC681 A3: to continue, the best thing we can do is to include discussion boards or even group chat features (ex: SLACK) where we CAN interact with others from afar, so the learning journey doesn't feel so lonely. It's a great way to pick up alternative ideas + perspectives too
@j_a_corrigan#ETEC681 A3: For me, it's the lack of engagement with others. When I feel disconnected from the instructor and/or peers, I feel a disconnect to the content. Learning is an intimately human and social act for me, and I enjoy learning best alongside others.
@LorraineeeZ@j_a_corrigan Seeing a pattern here-- seems like learners best enjoy distance education when delivered as a blend with synchronous and asynchronous methods!
@JackieAbram@j_a_corrigan I agree Jackie-- as a learner, it's like I can SENSE the amount of solid planning and thought put into the course design. I love how most of our online classes are a solid blend of interactivity and lecture.
