The Dragon Boat Festival
In the midsummer lies the Dragon Boat Festival. Glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo leaves releases a delicate fragrance; dragon boats race across green rippling waters; mugwort hung at doors wards off stale and harmful qi. Far more than a lively folk celebration, it embodies profound patriotism and devotion to home and country nurtured over thousands of years.

The Dragon Boat Festival is one of China’s four major traditional holidays, falling on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month. Originally linked to warding off disease and evil spirits, it later evolved to honor the poet Qu Yuan. Today, it’s world-famous for dragon boat racing and sticky rice dumplings (zongzi).
