Former LE Intel Analyst now connecting dots and surfacing BD and market opportunities for emerging life science companies. Slowly annoying all partisans on X.
There is ZERO correlation between the policy ideas I find compelling and the political party/ideology they may align with. True freedom is intellectual independence.

@MarkReid42 I'm wary of forcing imperfect supply chain fits into this project given how poorly we advance major projects, but am 100% on board with being more innovative about modifying/upgrading our raw materials and manufacturing components
Instead of opposing growth, why doesn't @avilewis and the @NDP campaign on eliminating federal personal income taxes below ~$70K. As someone well beyond this threshold, I would support if paired with a thorough review on gov't waste and ineffective programs.
@TheBreakdownAB GDP and job growth, a litany of major projects across O&G, tech, biopharma, aerospace, agriculture. And a complete reversal of the relationship with the Feds (credit to Carney also). Objective data does not align with this narrative.
@TheJasonPugh Its definitely a promising turnaround after a decade of mostly overt suppression and scaring away private investment. (e.g. "don't invest in Canada act")
@SarahFischer__ There is no excusing the lost decade under JT, but Carney is clearly enacting real change that will drive growth. Your challenge is that I would vote for Smith in AB and Carney federally. (partisans will not be able to get this)
@trentjohnsen Even a city-slicker knows (or should know) that a large amount of that amazing wealth and tax revenue is a product of rural economic activity (e.g. oil and gas resources).
@tylermeredith There was also a huge amount of intentional suppression. It had profoundly negative consequences for businesses and livelihoods (saw first hand). This isn't some abstract idea (may appear like that from an ivory tower)
The failure with modern liberalism is that reasonable principles are transformed into excessive, single-minded, and ultimately ineffective and counterproductive policy. And most of those principles are critically important. #CDNpoli#politics
@tylermeredith Except for the largely performative nature of elbows up. Given existing supply chain complexity, essentially impossible to navigate "buy-Canadian". Poorly supported by economic literature, rife with unintended consequences.
@KnightLegg@KenBoessenkool@trevortombe Interesting...almost appears like something that could have bipartisan political appeal, if that's possible anymore.
@mikemcintyrewpg Man-child hockey culture in full view. Though I was hoping for gold, because I am a mature adult, I could also be (and was) happy for Helle.
It should not be this difficult for citizens to be heard.
The purpose of electing representatives is for them to listen to the people, all the people, and govern accordingly.
Instead, too many elected officials behave like activists pursuing their own ideological agendas. They listen only to those who agree with them, dismiss everyone else and then wonder why citizens feel disenfranchised and public trust has collapsed.
This can change.
Listen to the people. Welcome disagreement. Hold more referendums, not fewer. Call independent public inquiries when serious questions arise. Be transparent about what you are doing, and explain why you are doing it.
Democracy is not simply voting once every four years and then being ignored. Public institutions exist to serve the public and that begins with listening, openness and accountability.
This should not be so difficult or controversial!
@sarobertson_ I don't know enough about this issue although it seems conceivable that the monopolistic nature of it could could be tricky with further privatization. This is the first issue he hasn't seemed totally out in left field on.
@TheBreakdownAB This is the state of media I guess. A post only intending to confuse. Obviously, Alberta contributes more to federal revenues (e.g. corp taxes) than it receives in return. Equalization is the gov'ts official program to correct for imbalances in provincial wealth.
@echipiuk Equalization, and Alberta's massive contributions to it, is the Federal Gov'ts clear acknowledgement that Alberta's economic wealth assists with subsidizing the have-nots. It is no more complicated.
@TonyDean_TO@JimboStanford@Cha2590@TheTyee It is actually disturbing that you see this analysis as credible. I'm a federalist but it obviously ignores a whole host of other Alberta economy-driven contributions to federal revenue. The history of equalization tells the story.
