George Pataki’s 1994 win was a historic upset. A little known 1st term GOP state senator toppled 3 term Mario Cuomo in deep blue NY.
History’s lining up again.
Saritha Komatireddy is ready to end Letitia James’s reign.
Deep blue NY can vote for change.
NYC spends more per pupil than almost anywhere else in the country, yet more than half of our Black and Hispanic students still aren't proficient in reading or math. How much more money do we have to spend, and how many more excuses do we have to make before somebody is held accountable?
And then there's Success Academy and other high-performing charter schools, educating predominantly Black and Hispanic children, many from low-income families, and producing academic results that put traditional public schools to shame. Same city. Same poverty. Same challenges. Dramatically different outcomes. Why? High expectations, rigorous instruction, longer school days, parental involvement, and accountability.
Where's the accountability in our traditional public schools? For the teachers? The principals? The administrators? And yes, the parents and guardians who have a responsibility to make sure their kids show up, behave, and do their work? And at some point, the kids themselves have to take responsibility for their education.
Concentrated poverty is a legitimate challenge. But it isn't a lifetime exemption from academic expectations. Successful charter schools have demonstrated that poor Black and Hispanic children can achieve at extraordinarily high levels when adults stop making excuses and start demanding results.
I'm sick and tired of adults debating demographics while another generation of children gets cheated out of a decent education. The objective should be academic achievement, not racial bean counting.
@sarithaforny is like the Jalen Brunson of debate.
I have literally never seen a candidate this prepared and fast on her feet. She had facts and figures at her fingertips and didn’t miss a single opportunity to take a shot and she scored every time.
Many of Saritha’s disclosures about the AG received little or no press attention, such as the fact the lawyers were paid 5 Billion to get a 3 Billion settlement in the Opioid Case and whistleblower groups have not been able to track how the 3 billion was even spent. Baby showers? Thats illegal , but no one can prosecute.
Meanwhile, people who need help are not getting it as drug addicts continue to roam the streets of New York, helpless and homeless.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. Listen below for some of the best moments.
But sadly James is so popular in NYC that people who are hurt by her the most will vote for her anyway and we will get four more years of this. Unless the voters wake up and actually show up to vote.
What will it take?
We need much more voter education to make up for the lack of coverage on all these issues.
We also need far more debates on critical offices like the AG and much broader coverage of these debates. @NY1@errollouis and @sarbetter did great. The questions were excellent. The moderating was fair and balanced. They were very well prepared.
And of course we need to do much more to energize the voters to actually pay attention and vote.
Open primaries are a start.
Great job Saritha!

Got to hand it to Bill Maher. We may not agree on everything but thank God he is calling out the insanity. That takes moral courage & principles. And deserves respect.

\New Yorkers are leaving our state to escape high crime, high taxes, and failing systems.
It’s time to stop the destruction of New York’s essential fabric and bring real change to our state. Thank you, Assemblyman Chang, for standing with us in this fight!
Who else is sick and tired of being sick and tired of paying for illegals to get services they are not entitled to and having Democratic elected officials fighting the Trump Administration in court for enforcing laws that are already in place that Democrats refuse to enforce? VOTE 🗳️ Republicans down the ballot
@RealDianeYap Absolutely. We don’t assess a fish on how well it climbs trees. Tests assess how well kids can read and write. Which children does she think shouldn’t be assessed on those metrics because reading and writing aren’t things they do?

Except for the clip of Mamdani swearing his oath on the Quran (his First Amendment right), the ad was fair game, not because Mamdani is Muslim, but because of the company he kept and continues to keep, and the fact that Governor Kathy Hochul empowers and enables him instead of calling out his and his friends' behavior.
@amkorchak@TheRealSPONY Separate question, why does this woman have zero to low income? She seems to articulate enough to do retail or service at the very least.
