Surg VAdm Arti Sarin, #DGAFMS congratulated Surg VAdm Shankar Subramanian who assumed the prestigious appointment of Director General Medical Services (Navy) on 11 May 2026. An alumnus of AFMC Pune and Pune University Gold Medalist in 1988, the Flag Officer is a distinguished physician, academician, researcher and military medical leader. A specialist in Medicine, he holds advanced training in Rheumatology & Clinical Immunology from AIIMS, New Delhi. Prior to assuming the present charge, he served as DCIDS (Medical) at #HQIDS. Earlier, he has tenanted appointments of HoD (Medicine) at AFMC Pune, Commandant, #CHAF Bengaluru and PMO at HQ Eastern Air Command.

There is a real need to understand autism. Autism is a developmental disorder and not a mental health issue as most people think. People on the spectrum comprehend. It is the ability to communicate that most often poses a challenge. With the right interventions and support system, a group of non-verbal autistic children and adults have co-authored - ‘Talking Fingers’. A book that serves as a revelation into their thoughts, choices, and reasoning. It serves as a powerful reminder that every individual has a voice waiting to be heard, a story waiting to be told. It is just the message we all need – Accept communication in all its diverse forms. #givethemavoice
And, do spread the word. Autism needs communities.
