My unsolicited advice: VTUBING IS NOT A COMMUNITY!!

It once could be (emphasis on the could) considered a community before 2019 or so, when there were so few Vtubers and it was a major novelty to see a Vtuber model on a screen. Nowadays, Vtubing is an industry, even a medium. But it is NOT a community!

What does this mean for you? It means you can't expect to get pulled into a group of like minded people just by existing as a Vtuber. You can't get attention just by stepping on stage and saying, "I'm a Vtuber!" If you are a Vtuber and expect to see the camaraderie and unity of a tightknit fandom or community, you will be sorely disappointed.

But this is also a good thing! Vtubing is a medium, so you can do literally anything you can envision. You don't need to think, "What should a Vtuber do here?" There's no answer, there's no restriction on what being a Vtuber makes you able or unable to create. The actions and thoughts of other people in the industry have no bearing on who you are and what you do.

I do not want anyone to feel restricted by a false label of what Vtubing is, or feel disappointed when they don't receive an experience that Vtubing in itself cannot provide. For good or for bad, Vtubing is not the experience, only the medium. You have to make the experience yourself
