After a drastic technique change, Sydney McLaughlin dropped her 400-meter hurdles time to a blazing 50.68 seconds, a feat so remarkable that only track and field legends can put it into perspective https://t.co/X1UF7iMQsU

Album of the day. In the late '70s, Chic was at the forefront of fresh, inventive sounds in disco and in the process, became one of the biggest, most memorable of all the era's disco acts. As disco was peaking and becoming tested due to oversaturation and bigoted backlash from the rock community, Chic further refined and explored their sound with their third album, 1979's Risqué, which turns 45 today. An album that, like its predecessor, 1978's C'est Chic, is one of the greatest disco albums—a Dionysian ecstasy that encapsulates the hedonism and bliss of its era. But it's also a bit leaner (no instrumentals or mostly instrumental tracks) with lyrics that seem to hint at more than escapism, but troubled relationships and betrayal.
You can't even begin to talk about Risqué without mentioning the wide appeal and influence of "Good Times," a thumping call to arms that was also a key part in fueling the emerging rap genre. The Sugarhill Gang famously used the song's trademark riff on "Rapper's Delight." Guitarist Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards didn't start legal action until the record was well on its way to becoming a million-seller, in the end sharing writers' credits on the groundbreaking rap single. "Good Times"'s groove was also the basis of Queen's 1980 number-one pop hit, "Another One Bites the Dust."
But there's more here than just that landmark anthem—the quiet storm of "A Warm Summer Night" is tastefully lush and sensual, while my favorite Chic song ever, the swirling "My Forbidden Lover" has a killer bouncy arrangement that underlines Chic's formidable playing skills. Risqué is one of the towering triumphs of late-period disco.

"There were times when you wanted to be like me.
And now…I wish I could be like you when I was your age.
I love you…
Congratulations for making your first All-Star game."
