Hon. @CMOTamilnadu Abolishing local-body entertainment tax must not be encouraged. These revenues fund essential services (drinking water, sanitation,etc) for local governments. Removing them will cut fund flows &harm development.

A welcome and much-needed step by the Tamil Nadu Government.

The decision of Hon'ble CM C. Joseph Vijay to close TASMAC outlets functioning near educational institutions, places of worship, and bus stands is an important public-interest measure. The identification of 717 such outlets across Tamil Nadu is a significant beginning.

However, the credibility and effectiveness of this move depend entirely on the accuracy and completeness of the survey and the list prepared by officials. Who better than the people themselves to validate it?

The list of these 717 TASMAC shops must be made public immediately. Further, special Grama Sabhas, Ward Sabhas, and Area Sabhas should be convened across Tamil Nadu to place this list before the people for public scrutiny and social audit — to verify whether all violating outlets have been identified and whether any have been left out.

Only then can this enforcement effort become a truly accountable and people-participatory initiative.
