Rose Obiga Praises West Nile Support, Pledges UGX 5 Million for Diocesan Jubilee Building Project.
Terego District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Rose Obiga, has expressed gratitude to the people of West Nile for their support during her recent bid for the position of Speaker of Parliament.
Speaking during the 9th Thanksgiving Anniversary of the Episcopal Ministry of Rt. Rev. Collins Charles Andaku, Hon. Obiga recalled the encouragement she received from the region during her campaign.
"First of all, I want to thank the people of West Nile. A few weeks ago, I was campaigning to be the Speaker of Parliament. The support I received was overwhelming," she said.
In a light-hearted moment, the legislator joked about her passion for public speaking, saying, "The only mistake you can make is give me a microphone. You're finished."
She also noted that party discipline influenced her decision regarding the speakership race, revealing that President Yoweri Museveni advised her to wait as he considered the matter.
"Just because of party discipline, the President said, 'First wait. I will think about it.' So, I will wait," she remarked.
The thanksgiving event, which celebrated nine years of Rt. Rev. Andaku's episcopal ministry, also served as a fundraising drive for the Diocesan Jubilee Building Project.
In support of the initiative, Hon. Obiga pledged UGX 5 million towards the construction project, joining other well-wishers and faithful in contributing to the development of the diocese's infrastructure.
As part of the celebrations marking 9 years of episcopal ministry, Rt. Rev. Dr. Charles Collins Andaku will lead a thanksgiving service and fundraising drive on Sunday, May 31, 2026, to support the completion of the Diocesan Golden Jubilee House project. With the fundraising drive, Church leaders are hoping to raise an additional UGX 600 million to complete the landmark structure, with UGX 33 million already mobilized ahead of the event. Once completed, the Golden Jubilee House is expected to serve as a key administrative, ministry, and income-generating facility for Madi West Nile Diocese.
