True love? A man called Wah had a section of this papyrus written up to transfer his property to his wife, Teti. He goes on to specify that the property is hers to do with as she pleases and to pass on to whichever of her children she chooses.

This statue of King Sobekemsaf is one of the few surviving royal statues from the Second Intermediate Period. There were two kings during this period with the name Sobekemsaf and it is not clear which one is depicted here. The statue originally had inlaid eyes.

Do you wish someone had told you this when you were 18? I've heard many stories from people who were discouraged from studying ancient Egypt. Whether you do it at university, on your own, with a study group, or through online programs, whether you're 8 or 80, study what you love!
Sharing again because I loves the way the light hit the face of the goddess Hathor.

Hathor is one of the few figures from ancient Egypt whose face was shown from a fully-frontal angle. She was associated with fertility, music, happiness, & drinking, & was a popular goddess.
Sisobek - vizier of Lower Egypt - takes on the attributes of Osiris in his sarcophagus lid seen here. Why did he do this?

Why is this book so beat up? 🤕 This is the only one like it in my collection. This exhibit lit the fire in me for ancient Egypt & the catalog's wear testifies to it - I took it everywhere with me.

Chilling with your furry friends this weekend? We're not alone! This ancient Egyptian couple had themselves shown with their dog and cat on this stela. One side shows the man with a dog named Hemu-ma under his seat, on the other is a cat under the couple's seat(see line drawings)
I didn't mean to ghost on you! Is it just me, or does this time of year-even with all of its fun-make you feel overwhelmed too? To keep up my video quality during the busy holiday season, I'm switching to an every-other-week video schedule for now.
What do you want to know?

I'm putting together a Q&A video and want to know what questions you have.

What would you like to ask me? Let me know by replying!
Did the ancient Egyptians believe in ghosts? Yes and no. They believed that a part of the person called an akh could live after death and interfere with the living, but akhs were not seen in the way that we think of a ghost

I asked you all what topics you wanted to see more of from me. It was close, but Egyptian language and writing always came out on top. I've listened and created a free guide for getting started with hieroglyphs quickly, called Half-Hour Hieroglyphs: https://t.co/gm640qUJRM
Bes was an ancient Egyptian god who was a protector of families, particularly young children and their mothers. He holds a sword in one hand and a snake in the other, showing that he has power over the dangerous forces of the world. And don't miss the baby Bes on the far left!
The site of Kom Ombo has been producing a ton of news lately, including the discovery of this stela that features two ruling queens who helped to bring about and shape the New Kingdom.
