On the 3rd of June 1991 Katia, Maurice, and their fellow volcanologist Harry Glicken were visiting Mount Unzen in Japan to observe an eruption. At 4pm a pyroclastic flow rushed down its slopes and tragically killed 41 people including Katia and Maurice
