About Forager. I have the opposite situation. Chances are, I would just miss the game if I saw the cover with in game graphic. I really like, how Forager looks, it's a good pixel-art, I love it. But this is paradox for me. If I saw it on the cover, I probably would have missed it
@Volrest Hand drawn for Celeste and Dead Cells are good. When seeing the art of forager on capsule and then in game, it ticked me off. I know forager is a good game, but, the vector art type of style in capsule creates a different expectation in mind.
Yes, that's it. The general audience can't appreciate pixel art. And by luring the player in with the cover art, player can already be introduced to the graphics with the trailer and screenshots. And by flaunting pixel art, you'll alienate potential players.
@Volrest nosotros que los "jugadores potenciales" no valoran realmente el valor del pixel art, por eso los diseñadores intentan hacer diseños de sus portadas lo mas atractivos posible, mirando grandes empresas, Pokémon hizo lo mismo
It's an interesting example. You are looking from the perspective of a player who literally loves pixel games. But I think these huge publishers are not stupid and know a little more. They are looking for a wide audience that might not even pay attention to pixel art games.
Hey, devs. Have you noticed, that games even with perfect pixel-art graphic doesn't use it for their Steam capsules?
The pixel-art looks cheap for regular player, even if it doesn't.
Think about it!
